Duwease’s comment on Cuphead illustrates why the more recent throwbacks to 8 and 16-bit era difficulty are much less frustrating than actually replaying those old games. Dying over and over again in Shovel Knight or Super Meat Boy or whatever is no big deal, because the games are pretty generous in not punishing you

I love when stuff like this happens, but then it becomes canon. Like “Sypha Belnades” from Castlevania III where “Belnades” was clearly supposed to be “Fernandez” but nope, it’s too late now.

I missed out on an SNES Classic and my disappointment might lead me to downloading an emulator this weekend.

The boss in the east in Hyper Light Drifter is generally the easiest boss to dispatch, as well. Although the dungeon itself is one of the more difficult ones.

Yeah, I’m generally quite pleased with the difficulty curve of the game. The encounters can be quite tough, but every time I’ve died, it was because I wasn’t effective in using traps, exploiting weaknesses, etc.

Are they generally the toughest non-boss enemies around? One of my active quests requires me to get a Stormbird trophy (in addition to the Thunderjaw trophy I already earned), so I’m a bit worried those guys are just as hard or even harder.

I’m well in the thick of Horizon Zero Dawn and really quite enjoying myself. I took down my first Thunderjaw, which was pretty harrowing and I almost didn’t make it through, but I did it.

You know, I liked, but didn’t love season 1 of this show. But if these first 4 episodes of season 2 are an indication of the quality to come, this show will be giving Crazy Ex Girlfriend a run for its money as my favorite comedy on TV.

Yeah, this will probably sound pretty dismissive of potentially lots of great games, but I think I might be burnt out of high-fantasy settings, so the LOTR angle of this game alone is enough to damper any interest. I’m currently playing Horizon Zero Dawn, and the post-apocalyptic sci-fi angle is refreshing when I

Also, I just started American Vandal last night. Only two episodes in, and while it’s entertaining, a pitch-perfect parody, and genuinely mysterious, I’m not finding it hilarious as others have. Will still keep watching, though, as I’m already invested in finding out who drew the dicks.

Mom on Pop on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Teti, pleeeeeeease! All Stars 3 is probably going to air this winter, you have to make her watch it!

By the way, I’m a huuuuuge Junji Ito fan as well, and just thought I should mention that there is an upcoming anime based on his work, so...something to put on your radar. I don’t think it’s been revealed specifically which work yet. I would guess Uzumaki or Tomie just based off popularity.

Yeah, totally, this game is completely immersive in the art style which is awesome.

This really looks like a delight, so it kind of sucks that I don’t have an XBox One. I guess I could get it for my PC.

I love Serial Experiments Lain, but I find it hard to recommend to people. Unless I know they like Lynch or other surreal storytellers

Check out the series Mononoke. It’s a horror anthology, incredibly well done and with quite a unique art style.

I would recommend something like “One Punch Man” or “Puella Magi Madoka Magica,” two more recent series that take well-worn anime tropes (over the top battles between powerful beings a la DBZ, and magical girls a la Sailor Moon respectively) and do a really great job of subverting your expectations and doing something

So, was this episode inspired by the Moon Animate Make Up YouTube project in which a bunch of animators remade two episodes of Sailor Moon with each shot in their own styles? One of them even had a Bob’s Burgers animator on it, so maybe that’s the connection there?

I enjoy the Paper Mario series quite a lot, actually, but they definitely feel different than Mario RPG.

Yeah, the jokes haven’t seemed to evolve to keep up with the times. I love (mousy of) the original series for being a touchstone for me as a closeted teen, introducing me to Megan Mullaly, and those episodes with Debbie Reynolds, I just don’t find them particularly funny anymore. This new stores has really got to
