I would say play Zero Mission first. It's a remake of the original Metroid for NES, and will properly acclimate you to the general story, themes and gameplay.

This is true. I've never been able to use any of the heavy-weight characters well. Their poor steering ability almost guarantees that I'll be going off-road at some point, coupled with slow acceleration spells disaster.
Wow, is that right? That's interesting, I never knew that.
Yeah, and even in spite of its simplicity, the badge system itself is actually quite ripe for playing the game a variety of different ways.
This is only the second Mario RPG I've played, after Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. I'm really enjoying it, though, so I'll probably seek out other games in the series (and the Mario & Luigi series) after this.
Her design upsets me. It's the little pigtails, I find them creepy,
I'd say it has a pretty steady difficulty curve so far, at least up until Chapter 6, where I currently am. It certainly is a good game to introduce younger ones to RPGs.
This reminds me of that Mortal Kombat game that had a kart racing minigame in it for no reason.
Oh man, I wish I had something I could replay Link's Awakening on (legally, that is). Have fun with it.
Hmm, good point. The color palette and the lighting effects certainly do remind of me Transistor as well.
I have a friend that always plays Toadette on the Yoshi bike and 95% of the time ends up in 1st place by a considerable margin. I don't understand what kind of witchcraft he's doing.
In spite of the fact I have 3 other games that I'm currently in the middle of, I decided this last week to plunge into Paper Mario. I've never played any of the Mario RPGs before except for the SNES Mario RPG, and I was in the mood for something a little more light hearted and cartoony.
I did the same thing. *blush* In fact, it was probably my post that lead to confusing Venerable Monk.
I posted this on accident over on the Hyper Light Drifter thread because I'm a lazy reader.
EDIT: You all, I'm a dolt. This isn't the WAYPTW thread. I'll repost it there.
I read your first sentence in the voice of Sal from Futurama: https://www.youtube.com/wat…
1. Final Fantasy VI - This one just barely barely beats out #2, but when someone asks which one is my favorite, it's my visceral answer, so I guess it's earned the spot. I don't think it's necessary to go into the reasons why, you all already know.
2. Final Fantasy V - This one remains the one I simply find the most…
That's why I have to become Superman IV: The Quest for Peace!
You know, I've really grown to love this review style, especially since I'm not usually the type to buy a game right on release day. I know, anyone who works in the gaming industry is likely rolling their eyes at me now.
White Josh and Heather are like the Greek chorus of CEG. I love them.
