Completely agree.
Completely agree.
Nice one for actually reading the rest of my post. I think half of the comments on here would have been answered if people had done that!
Folding knife in my pocket, whistle is on the panel next to the pack and a fire kit with various tinders, firesteel and lighter in one of the pouches. The patches are just ones that I’ve designed myself and the 18 mile hike we went on took 7-8 hours and ended up in the remote pub for a locally brewed pint actually!
Thanks for this comment!!
It’s a 2Litre water bladder, full when I started and only just didn’t finish it (there was a locally brewed pint calling me at the end!) The battery pack was there just in case and I could take or leave it to be honest. This post was just about what I chose to carry. Lifehacker added the ‘recommended’ part. I just…
Agreed!
I carry the rope as one time on a hike a friends dog got stuck in some grating under a bridge of gushing water and he had to go in to save his dogs life. I had a folding knife is in my pocket. I was wearing the extra layers as I’d taken the shot when I got back! Food was all eaten (same reason). A shelter wasn’t…

Don’t worry, folding knife in my pocket and a whistle in there in the full list (see link to original post)!

I completely agree that this is not a 3day kit. This article, as it appears on Lifehacker, wasn’t actually written by me. The original post on my blog where this content was taken from reads: “Loadout: Editor Bushcraft Pack. This summer I went on a 3 Day Bushcraft Course. Here’s what my loadout looked like.”
I completely agree. Check out the original post from both Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/natwags… and the original blog post: http://www.packconfig.com/post/128326050… I didn’t write the title or anything of the post on here, except for the list of gear (that I notice has been edited!)
This kit was used in the woods and is a very similar to the kit I’ve used previously for a ‘stay’ in the woods. I’ve used this pack and a lot of this gear hiking and camping in other settings too. The cost has all been been spread over a number of years and is actually conservative compared to some kits I’ve seen!
No bugging out intended here. The wallet is a Core Nano Wallet and I was using it as more of a mini pouch. There is a fire starting kit in the orange painted Altoids tin in the middle left of this picture. I’ve put together kits for less than this too. I’ve saved up and treated myself to some more expensive gear over…
The food and water was supplied on the course, trauma kits were available. Multi-tools, socks, space blanket and a firestarter are all in there, just not visible!
The large majority of this gear was collected over the last 3 years. Your costing doesn’t account for discounts or deals either!
Agreed!
They are great. Bit of a pig to clean, but produce a seriously beautiful espresso (not expresso!!!) for a travel option.
I have a Light My Fire plastic one, but personally dislike plastic cutlery!
Indeed I did!
