Good spot!
Good spot!
As I’ve said. This kit was not for survival! If I was doing survival, it would be a lot simpler and lighter. I wasn’t planning to hike for any great distance, so weight wasn’t an issue. 9 hours is my idea of a friendly hike, and a simple 10L pack is all I’d take.
Indeed! But realistically caffeine would be awful for long term survival, can you imagine the headaches!! Wean yourself off as soon as possible if you’re trying to survive!!
I have no idea who submitted this, but it wasn’t me. I’d be interested to find out!
As I’ve said above the intended use for this kit was not survival, but a 3-day Bushcraft course in the woodlands of the UK. No need to hike for miles (otherwise I would have packed MUCH lighter and with some food supplies) and fresh water was provided. Survival is get out at all costs, but Bushcraft is about how to…
The orange painted Altoids tin on the middle left hand side has vaseline cotton balls, firesteel, a bit of Maya dust, stormproof matches and some silver birch bark I harvested during the trip. My wife made this fire starting kit for me and I always keep it with me, and top it up regularly.
You’ve nailed it! Orange painted Altoids tin on the middle left hand side has vaseline cotton balls, firesteel, a bit of Maya dust and some silver birch bark I harvested during the trip.
Agreed! Rubbing sticks is the last thing to try!!!
I would too if I was trying to survive!!! But for three days in the woods, even this would be sufficient to ‘survive’.
True, this works to get rid of a lot of the impurities!! Not completely save against all possible water contagions.
Thanks for reading up! Yeah I had a full 3L bladder on top of fresh water being supplied on the course.
As mentioned above. Not a survival kit! Otherwise I would have planned for filtering or purifying.
It’s a great quality to cost ratio knife. Perfectly capable. But when you get the opportunity, do spend more on an EVEN better quality blade!
The Mora isn’t a folding knife. We don’t have bull rhino’s in the UK, but if I was facing that situation I would feel highly under equipped with only a Mora!!! Fair point!
Thanks! It was actually provided as the ‘course knife’ but I had one already!
Hi there, I’ve mentioned above, but this is NOT intended to be a survival kit. It has been miss quoted! Regarding the towel though, I found it rings out really well and also dries super quickly, so not much extra weight! Dry feet are a good thing when it comes to hiking distances.
I love that, through wood like butter! Thanks!
Agreed!
Please see my post about this not being a “survival” kit.
Wow! Well this is my photo and I had no idea this was posted here! I’m honoured that it was posted and has got so much attention. In case anyone reads this, I can address most of the “survival” comments by saying, if there were a link to the original post, or even my website, it would be clear that this IS NOT…
