That’s a great suggestion. Thanks for sharing your insight. I have now got hold of a large dry bag that could fill this need! Nice one!!

Nailed it with this comment. Having spent many days trying to extract a bottle while hiking a long, a Camelbak makes drinking without stopping a breeze!
It started as a much bigger pack that I combined into one at the end. This is all that remained after I could eat no more!! Ha ha!
Glad you could find out about them through this. They do some great work and are worth supporting if you have the chance!
Finally, because I find the wannabe hipster hiker comment hilarious I wanted to say this…
Badgerspit! I can understand your frustration of a loadout like this being posting on Lifehacker. I have been uploading images from a variety of activities to their Flickr Group (here: https://www.flickr.com/groups/2301352@N21) that they mention in the post. A previous guy who curated the featured bags for LH managed…
Thanks Tony! A lot of the expensive gear I’ve got when they’ve been discounted (sometimes heavily!). There is a Leatherman and flashlight inside the pouches and personally didn’t feel the need for an e-tool for a day hike, but I do keep one in the car, just in case! A ziplock bag is a good idea for socks and might…
Hi Earth Charlie, I just wanted to offer my thanks for bothering to defend this setup, do some research about me a the blog I run!
All of this stuff has been gathered over the last 3 years or so. The vast majority of it has been used and proven itself worthy of keeping a place in my pack!
Check out my response (hopefully) posted above (or if not check out the original post here: bit.ly/loadout68) about considering most of this kit as unnecessary, however I like to subscribe to GORUCK’s mantra of throwing some weight in your pack and going for a walk. The weight providing a bit more of a work out for…
The camera was used to take this photo. I agree that the majority of this stuff is not essential. Here’s what I said in the original post which hopefully gives a bit of info as to why I carried all this…
I always keep a pocket knife in my pocket for easy access when in the woods. Totally agree with your comment on the Leatherman. I have it in my pack that I carry every day as it’s always getting pulled out for fixing or an odd job.
Agreed! More patches!!
Great idea! I love this. I was wanting a pack the same colour as his (perhaps this is the wrong way round!) to match, but now I like that idea better!
Yeah exactly! Plus my son treats it mean and it’s help up well so far. Gonna go for at least another 5 years solidly!
As it says in the Flickr description/blog post this is from, the carabiner is “Great for clipping the pack to things, or things to the pack.”
Yeah that’s confusing without the context from the Flickr image description or blog post. It’s a teether left over from something my wife was making for a friend but I’ve just turned it into a super long zip puller, mainly because he loves animals and it was lying around!
If you view the original image on Flickr or the original post on Pack Config you’ll read that I’ve been attempting to teach our son about directions and looking at a compass, just for fun, so this comes along sometimes. It is my compass.
Well I’ve seen 12+ year olds wearing them so he’s got at least 10 years to hammer it!
Not for a 3 year old!
