Whyyyyy are we giving more press to these morons?  Stop it!

Every single conspiracy wacko I have ever met has been incapable of handling uncertainty, chance, bad luck, chaos and randomness. They are such control freaks that they cannot handle that bad shit just happens. Effing small minded cowards.

As I was staring out at the bridge collapse from my office in the Inner Harbor this morning I was wondering how long it would take the Right wing morons at Fox and elsewhere to blame this on one of their hobby horses. Didn’t take long.

I wish I was shameless enough to con rubes like this. Damn my grandma for installing me with a rudimentary sense of self respect and keeping me poor at the same time.

Cost / not enough tugboats (and crews)?  Speaking from my vantage point of San Francisco Bay - you’d need easily 10x or 20x the existing number of tugs to escort every freighter (and oil tanker) in and out of SF Bay... all to avoid the 1 in 1,000,000 chance of an accident.

Now playing

Found audio from the emergency channels. Authorities had about 100 seconds to close the bridge from traffic on both sides and attempted to alert the workers on the bridge but ran out of time.

Yeah if they’d had a good ol’ boy wearing a Confederate Battle Flag shirt, and drinking some Bud Lite there is *no way* they would have it that bridge. Damn foreign boats -- we should build a huge wall around all of them! This is all the fault of Obama Care!

This is horrific.
I feel for all the families in this.

It didn’t take long for nimrods and bots on Twitter to blame DEI, wtf?

Is this going to end up being a Captain Hazelwood thing? Probably not since it looks like they had mechanical, power issues.

What does bother me is why aren’t there bumpers to protect the piers

Can’t speak to the accuracy of the data, purple represents the approved path.

The Key Bridge is the transportation option for moving Hazardous Material around Baltimore. Now that same traffic will have to go the long way around 695 to rejoin 95 south of the city. (Anyone whose driven that section recognizes the traffic flow is going to take a huge hit from the increased trucks.) There area also

They care about Baltimore like they care about The Troops: only when it's convenient

Plus, how fast do they think things happen? It’s gonna take a decade or two before a new bridge is built to replace this. Even if it were possible to reinforce this bridge to prevent something like this, it would have started a good 10+ years ago, well before Biden ever took office.

I’m over here amused that the MAGA crowd is giving any shits about Baltimore in the first place.

The funny one I saw was complaining that Biden’s infrastructure bill did nothing to keep this from happening, like all the money in the world was gonna reinforce a bridge against a damn cargo ship running into it.

Maga is already blaming Pete Buttigig, Biden and liberals all over social media. Bad shit happens not everything has to be a conspiracy.

If this is a partial collapse (as I’ve heard it described several times this morning) then I don’t know what a full collapse would be.

I teach a class in information literacy and research skills at the college level. I have to do a whole series of readings and discussions that emphasize over and over again that your belief does not trump actual facts. Just because you believe in something does not make it real. I’ve had students get very hostile, and

They only reject it when they are healthy.  The moment they get sick they want all the modern medicine they can pump in.  I know a few ER nurses and heard some Covid horror stories about very sick anti-vaccers and their families begging to give them the vaccine with literal no understanding of how a preventive vaccine

It is absolutely amazing to me how many people reject science that has been proven over centuries because they want to "believe" something different.
