Yes a new set of all seasons would probably be better in the snow than a bald set of winter tires. But what I was saying is that if you start out with a new set of winter tires and a new set of all seasons and you swap them each season, they're going to last longer than just the all seasons.

This is true. They probably could've done that. And they probably will do that on a more aggressive package sometime in the future. Think of it this way, would you rather not be able to hear the engine due to sound deadening, or be able to hear it through a sound tube?

Maybe they've just soundproofed the cabin so well against road noise that it deadened the engine noise. And they did this so that they could eliminate road noise but not eliminate the engine noise. At least its not electronic like on some BMW M cars.
