I think the biggest manipulation from that ‘Picard’s Resurrection’ thing was the scene where they showed Seven and Rios mourning over him, when they should be 100% aware that right next door they were putting Picard’s mind in the new body. Read more

I was surprised how much that final shot shook me up. Surprised too that Marvel actually went for it, given the aversion it seems to have to make the violence of its heroes tactile like that, and leaning so much into the Shield being symbolic of Steve. Made it all the more impactful. Read more

Paraphrasing an interesting tweet I saw recently that asked “why can’t a black guy just slay the dragon?”. Basically asking why stories starring black people have to then involve explorations of racism so often. Read more

Watched the first two episodes of the first season and quite enjoyed them, but one thing I’m surprised put me off it was the gross out stuff and bloody violence. More grossed out than entertained in those bits. Can anyone tell me if that’s something that continues on in the first season and into this season?

Anyone know how this affects the UK release of the movie, due on May 7th? Like, will Premier Access on Disney Plus not be available until July in the UK?

A damn shame, and leaves me wondering (no pun intended) if the CW DC Universe is starting to sputter a bit. Supergirl and Black Lightning ending soon, this and the Canaries show not picked up... Read more

Just before we have some of the usual ‘Cancel culture gone mad!’ comments, no, she is not being ‘cancelled’, she is facing the consequences of using a public platform, the internet equivalent of shouting out in the middle of the street, to make questionable comments, and Disney would rather not have to deal with it. A big blow to the idea now is that Discovery Season 3 (and seemingly beyond) is like that - the Federation essentially having to rediscover their own worlds and adapt to the times. Read more

You can make complaints about the show, but accusing it of not being Star Trek is silly. Especially because this is one of the more ‘Star Trek’-y episodes of Discovery. The crew try and win over a people through debate and messages of hope and idealism. Read more

It’s weird how it’s offered to her in the episode, as Saru comments that she will only be his temporary number one until her can find a permanent replacement, which seems kind of a dick move in a way? Like, ‘you’ll do until I can find someone better’. Or maybe he just sees it as a way for her to gain some ‘on-the-job’ Read more

I’ve been championing Discovery for a long time, and have defended Burnham and the shows focus on her, but this episode I was just really frustrated by the writing and characterisation of her. Read more

Can anyone confirm or explain something to me about the whole, ‘Burnham caused the Klingon War’ thing? I’ve never quite understood the thinking behind that, as the Klingons were there to ambush and attack them. If I remember correctly, she never even fired on the Klingons first, she’s stopped before she can. So how Read more

Can we talk about how terrible the green screen lighting is here? Like, we can see the sun is way off in in the distant background of all these characters, and yet all the light on the foreground actors has the light coming from the left.

Enjoyed the episode, but one thing that hit me is the fear that it’s tying into too much of the Star Wars Universe. This episode had a lot of ‘hey, remember this?’ compared to the first season. I enjoyed the first season based on it being a great tie in show that relied on almost no previous characters or lore to tell Read more

Kind of ironic David saying that to Billie. Fun fact for Americans who may not know; Billie Piper was a pop star in the UK before she became an actress. Had two UK Number One’s (She’s apparently the youngest artist ever to do so according to Wikipedia) and a platinum album.

No point in arguing with these people who make and comment on these ‘reviews’ of the Nu-Trek. The creators will find anything to nitpick, and these viewers will lap it up. They’ve decided in advance they’re going to despise it.

Accidentally watched one where the complaint was, in the frickin’ opening sequence of Lower Read more
