Having just (in Nov) bought a new Atlas SE-tech package with 4 Motion and getting 16" of snow last weekend I can say YES I am very happy I paid the extra $1500 for AWD.

Cosmetically this is my favorite body style of the Golf, especially in the avocado green.  That being said I think the price is a little steep on this one.

I would pick one up for a work delivery vehicle that would work next to a couple Sprinters.  No need for a big truck but if there was something small we could use for stuff too dirty for the Sprinters, I would jump on it.

And the Macan and Cayenne are still fun as hell to drive!! If you need a fictional backseat but still want an enthusiast vehicle get yourself a Macan GTS and you will not be sad. They are amazing fun to drive.
