Interesting points. I literally loathed the whole "PE Teacher/Math Teacher" bit. That's the stuff that really soured me on the whole thing. But now that you mention it, your examples are pretty spot on.

I think we agree on much of this. I just think an episode that is supposed to be dedicated to 50 years of Doctor Who has no real business being worried about having a "draw" on the poster. It's supposed to be a celebration of history, not a marketing department cliche of famous guest-stars. Hell if they wanted that,…
….what are you talking about specifically? Did someone mention the Washington Redskins? ;) lol
Cool! I'll see if I can Google that up. I'd like to know more about that whole behind the scenes scenario with those two.
I think because of the frantic and off-kilter tone of TIME OF, it never actually struck me as real. It just seemed to come out of nowhere to give the episode some form of weepy pathos. That's just me, though. If it's there, it's there. I just never saw any kind of ramp up to it. It just….appeared.
Never heard of either of those movies. And honestly…no lie…when he turned around in NAME OF… I had to look him up on Wikipedia to see who he was. Never made a dent with me, obviously. And speaking of Oscars, like I said, last time was the 70's I believe. (Not that I put much stock in awards like that….Marissa Tomei…
If you say so. I've never heard that Moffat touched Doc's Wife. But then, Moffat was still on-point in S6. So it might be that he and Gaiman work together well in certain circumstances. And don't think I'm defending Gaiman. I know he's got his ego as well. But since I'm currently having to deal with Moff's burned-out…
Hmmm, fair enough. I'm not sure I agree it's that succinct or successfully communicated by the scripts. Probably because I never felt Clara had an anchored relationship to The Doctor (Smith), so it's hard to compare. I never got the flirty/romantic vibe from Eleven and Clara, and found it something of an odd,…
I don't know. According to Gaiman (and one of the reasons I believe he's not writing scripts now) is that his script was heavily edited and changed by Moffat. So theory or not, it falls with what we know of Moffat's insecurities (remember, this is the writer that publicly insults his audience in the press any time…
What exactly do you think he's been doing the entire history of the show since 1963? He's been FIGHTING evil and injustice throughout time and space. He spent years on Earth working side-by-side with UNIT (a military organization) and has worked with them many, many times since. He's killed millions of beings when…
Also, I was referencing Moffat's admission in an interview that the War Doctor was going to be Eccleston until he couldn't make the THOR 2 / Doctor Who schedule work (or just didn't want to work with Moffat)
Maybe in some corners of England. But for Americans, he was last relevant in 1979's ALIEN movie. I mean, other than a cameo in a Harry Potter movie. Meanwhile, Eccleston remains currently active in Hollywood recently appearing in THOR 2.
No, it was insinuated via vague 4th-wall-breaking dialogue that he MIGHT be a "future incarnation". Meanwhile, he could have played the 4th Doctor if someone with genuine imagination and love for the history of the show wanted to make it work. And for everyone that says "too old", I simply point to guest-star John…
Spot-on. Mr. Moff is burned out and it is glaringly obvious with each passing episode. It's a shame his ego has grown so broad that no writer can have an episode this season without him attaching his name to it. I guess he fears another Neil Gaiman coming in and revealing his Emperor with No Clothes writing style.
Yeah, anything can be assumed that nothing might mean something later. That's easy circular logic that translates as weak writing/characterization. And since all I can go on is the current story, and past history of the show, it paints The Doctor as a prick. But guess we'll see.
"thought provoking"….which part?
Yes. Lots and lots and LOTS cheaper than 2005.
Pretty much agree with every single point…..except none of it was funny or amusing to me. And the flip didn't bother me, but it was ridiculous nonetheless. Good review. :)
Jamie, Sarah-Jane, Ace, Rose.
(Jamie was the first companion with any real chemistry and solo appeal. Sarah was the first with real character outside the status-quo for companions. Ace broke the mold by combining both characteristics. Which lead the way for Rose…who isn't my favorite, but she deserves the credit.)
Well in the next episode preview, you literally hear The Doc's voice (or Clara's) saying something to the effect of "one innocent life versus the entire world". So I assume he makes the hard choice, sacrifices the innocent life, and this pushes Clara further away from him. Or something. I don't see how it would be…
