@clevernamehere: I think the "job as a barometer of self-worth" thing has crossed the gender barrier. It was always there for some jobs (e.g. strippers), but now we've got the white collar vs. blue collar thing to contend with too. At least, that has been my experience; maybe because I live in a city with a large

I am totally distracted by the awful bangs, of all things. Is that weird?

@eri401: the media ran with it because they knew there would be a massive backlash, including indignent celebs, and the whole thing is fantastic for ratings.

@kafern: I cannot believe that dude. What an ass!

@She Ra(ygun): Princess of Power!: fwiw, I had the heart-gonna-explode feeling for the first few weeks of taking Wellbutrin. Was able to get rid of it by switching to the XL version (long release, big improvement!), plus it lessened with time.

@saoirse4: in addition to college being a bucket of mental health issues in general, college age is generally onset age for some mental illnesses. If we know young people are going to have their first episodes at college, and statistically we do know it, then why aren't our colleges equipped as a point of

@Not-Shattered: and even if they know it's not Tylenol, so what? There is nothing shameful about taking meds.

@kafern: people wince? I cannot even imagine. if someone winced at me I'd ask them "you look uncomfortable; is your thong too far up your ass?"

@kafern: As a fellow crazy person, I am also floored by the maze of half eaten cookies we have to follow to get mental health treatment (never mind affording it). Navigating a completely uncoordinated system when we're least capable of doing so.

@graciousplum: thanks dude. I don't want to disrespect health care professionals...my family's full of 'em and I know they work hard and have difficult jobs. I just think that western medicine has its strengths and weaknesses. Broken bones and gashes, high five. Cancer, mental illness, nutrition, chronic mystery

@Donovanesque: I wish the entire world would read your comment.

knowing when to quit is just as important as knowing when to persevere. doing something you truly hate just because you started it and feel like you have to finish it - whether it's a book or a degree - is completely nuts.

@Bethanylcm: I think big corporate food and pharmaceutical companies have earned our distrust many times over.

Diet "food" is not food.

@RodetheTrolleywithStanwyck: Not lame at all. I can relate...2 years ago I got clobbered with multiple big stresses and one day my brain just cracked. Went on Celexa, + clonazepam as needed, and it worked really well. But less than a year in it stopped working and I plunged into a hole of anxiety & depression.

@toxicrocker: is an EGALITARIAN!: I use the instructions from my neti pot (which I can't actually use up my nose, thank you deviated septum). I have a jar filled with huge salt rocks and water (so the water is as saturated as possible with salt) and pull out a spoonful of that for maybe a cup of water? I have no
