I feel sort of bad for Amundsen, whose actual accomplishment was overshadowed by a man who both lost the race and then died- partly due to his own hubris and poor planning. I suppose it's because the story is just so damn compelling.

I think it's the absurdity of the idea that Hollywood is adapting Battleship of all things, coupled with the nonsensical addition of aliens to what was already a ridiculous concept.
