I have never once in my entire life managed to forget to have contempt.

Jesus hopping Christ, yes. Like- that element of labor is not hard to grasp. If a person has a set of skills and the wage for those skills is not high enough to entice them to participate in their field, then there will be a shortage of skilled professionals in those fields. So maybe if there’s a chronic shortage you…
Also that whole “well- they have summer off” thing is utter bullshit. First off- they work 12 month’s worth of hours in 10 months. That sucks. Second- like you said, many are involved in summer programs. Or third- the pay is so piss poor that they end up working summer jobs anyway.
People seem to forget that “public good” jobs like these, and my field of nursing, are staffed by professionals. Like- you have to get through an education and get certified to do the job. Teachers aren’t just glorified babysitters, and nurses aren’t just servers with with narcotics.
Because most education is funded through property taxes and the people who have managed to own property are also underpaid. So when they are asked to chip in to increase education funding they recoil in horror and hiss and spit and go Tea Party. Because America is fucked up.
Yep. I’m a registered nurse in Austin, TX and I work 48 hours/wk and I can barely afford to live in a single bedroom apartment here. Wages in every field in this city except for tech are depressed. Yet the rents keep going up and up. It’s disgusting, and this city council we have does nothing at all to help. It’s…
It seems that much of your first response seems to be that it is okay to criticize a social custom so long as it is “bad.” Whaling, FGM, etc. I believe that one can make a moral claim against those actions. But an aversion to touching? In your mind that is as dangerous and in need of condemnation of FGM? I think that…
I find it interesting that someone can just trash an American social custom and it’s cool. If I were to make some similarly derisive comment regarding a social norm in Latin America I am sure that it’d go over great.
Seizures are so scary. I have taken care of quite a few seizure patients and had several of them seize on me. I swear it’s more terrifying than when someone GI bleed pops or they go into respiratory arrest. You’re literally powerless until it’s over. I hope your family remains safe!!
Don’t you hate that you have to clarify these facts in a way that may even open the possibility that you’re making excuses for this guy? I had to upthread and was it made me hate the internet for a moment.
I literally hate the internet for forcing me into the position of clarifying a fact about an asshole like this guy in such a way that it may seem like I at all do not hate him. He’s not rich. He attended on scholarship.
Sploogin’. He’s going to be called Sploogin’ all of high school. Because his name is Spurgeon and he’s in a sex cult.
Jesus Christ. That sculpted facial hair is just too much. the triangles cut out of his goatee? Kill me now. With fire.
(You can talk to me all you want about the cognitive benefits of boredom, and I agree that they are myriad, but bored kids can often be super whiny and annoying.)
Yeah. It’s attacking and ridiculing the basis of her notoriety. If the body is so exposed that there’s nothing left for us to see but the alimentary canal, then she’s basically on par with a beauty queen who has seen her first wrinkles. Kim is a wildly successful entrepreneur in ways I don’t fathom, but she’s still…
The last part is important. The fact that her body and her willingness to show it off is the foundation of her notoriety makes it troubling when the shock and raciness has worn off to the point that people can make biting critiques. Basically someone is defacing her logo in an ironic way, and she’s resorting to…
I still just don’t get the line of reasoning that doing anything other than celebrating a nude form is some sort of high social crime. No one is claiming you’re not sexy, Kim. You’re obviously sexy, and your body is in fact quite lovely. However- if you really want equality? If you really want a world in which people…
I agree with you. If women want to show their bodies, then they should absolutely be allowed to do so. Safely and without reservation; it’s theirs and they can flaunt it as they want. But when they put it out there, it’s there to be commented upon. Not all such commentary that is less than laudatory is necessarily…
BURNS LIKE FIRE!
You’re attention-slut shaming! You fiend!!
