Oooof.... As a struggling independent inventor myself, this story hits very close to home. I’ve had a few inventions stolen from me by major corporations over the years, including Frito-Lay. So like... I get it.

That wedding represented her effort to go straight, and once it was taken from her it ceased to matter, I think. Not even mad really, considering the harm they did to her directly. But I would never agree that this is a gender flip of the avenging the fridged woman trope.

Joe Haldeman won the Hugo and Nebula for this idea almost twenty years ago in “Forever Peace” (1997). At that point it really was SF, but now with routine assassinations by drones and the android-ish Atlas bot from Boston Dynamics - not so much.

Was going to mention this one. A really terrific and well-done scene, which I like to think was a deliberate inversion of the tendency of other writers to bend the "no guns" rule.
