You seem to have a minor misperception, if you get stuck at a long light you consume virtually zero battery. If you get stuck behind a slow truck you consume your battery charge much less than at speed. Two fingers off the handlebar as you go by is enough of a wave for me to stay incented to move over for the next bike. Most of my friend ride, I prefer to have crumple-zones around me driving in Bay Area traffic. So, I went with a Fiat 500e as my commuter to be able to drive in the HOV lanes.
