Option A is absurd and crap. Option B is fantastic. Honestly, I’ll more than willingly take 4 years of obstructionist bullshit over President Trump’s bungling idiocy. As sad as it is, I see accomplishing nothing as an improvement over a massive 20-50 year backslide.

If the MR2 is like the 944 in that it has a very small amount of space for the headunit to live, the newer crop of bluetooth rigs that don’t bother with CD players are an absolute godsend. The one I have is about a third the depth of a more conventional head unit, and it means you have way more room to deal with

Yeah, no kidding. Trying not to get my hopes up, but yeah.

Last I saw, they’re claiming Q1 2017. We’ll see if that actually happens, but that’s the current line.

It works exactly like you’d hope! I’ve got a Pioneer MVH-X370BT (a basic, single-DIN, no-frills head unit w/ bluetooth) in my 1984 Porsche 944, and a magnetic mount for my phone that’s up where you can actually see the screen. When I fire up the car, the bluetooth connection is established, and Android Auto comes up

Same here. Waze support for Auto is supposedly in progress, and is targeted for Q1 2017 last I saw. Fingers crossed for that to actually come to fruition!

That makes my 944 170 people-years old, and it has bluetooth. :P

Basically everything you described can be had readily on a used vehicle if you take a little bit of time in finding the right used car. If you’re hung up on the warranty front, get a CPO or equivalent, but other than that, savvy shopping on Craigslist and the like can absolutely get you the right car at the right

Yeah, no thanks on the cheap parts. I’ll pass on the OE-branded parts, but the ones that are from the same mfr are just fine 99% of the time. Cheap eBay garbage, though... Hell no.

An alternator for my 944 was only $225, so yeah...

Sounds about right. Broadband is such a racket in the US... Even in metro areas, it’s ridiculously overpriced.

If you take a few minutes to ferret out the deals, it’s usually pretty easy to get internet at least in the <$40/month category in a lot of areas. In Indianapolis, I remember spending around $30/month for 6Mbit DSL, whereas in the Denver metro (Broomfield to be specific), it’s averaging out to $35/month for 20Mbit.

I’m absolutely certain of this fact.

Makes sense- so far I’m still on the 15" display on my laptop, plus a couple of 22" hd displays, so it’s still pretty workable as-is.

Magnet has been a favorite of mine lately- it only does the window-snapping stuff, and nothing else.

I’ve got an old 944 that had a Maaco paint job done to it at some point in the moderately recent past, and the only thing I’ll say is that the paint itself hasn’t held up. The job itself was actually done quite well, generally-speaking, especially for a color-change job, but the new paint has faded horribly in a way

And I’m pretty sure there’s an option for some tax benefits considering it’s likely being categorized at least partially as a business expense!

Turns out you’re right, and my memory was off by 1 MPG for a window sticker I last saw 13 years ago... I know damned well this wasn’t ‘what some guy got in a car once’- if that were the case, I’d have listed something more like 55-60mpg, because that’s very possible with the mk4 with a stick, though 50 is more likely
