Whether or not that was the original intention of the term "Mary Sue", it has been very common for a while to throw it around as a catch all term for impossibly powerful women in escapist fantasies. And I don't think the argument that you can limit the term to pre existing franchises really holds water anyway, because

I haven't seen any of these movies so I don't know what you're talking about, and you didn't provide any context for your statement at all, but I just want to point out what a ridiculous term that is. Literally every male led action movie I've ever seen, except maybe Die Hard, has a dumb as fuck protagonist. If you

"I don't think the times I've been attracted to men that it's identical to the times I've been attracted to women." Yeah dude, it's called being bi. It's very common for people to favour different genders for different types of relationships. What I don't understand is why, as a conservative, you think that because

Come on dude, if nothing else the article clearly quotes him sticking up for Chris Brown. Get those #alternativefacts outta here.

Plus the absolutely insane marketing budget WB is giving these movies, which is the real reason they do big box office numbers despite the fact no one actully likes them.

Man, nothing is more likely to make me get up for a snack than when a military dude starts talking on a show I'm watching. I mean that as a judgment of TV writers, because they seem to think that writing for the military means they can get away with the laziest, most cliche dialogue. Exhibit: Diggle, Arrow.

Speaking of the Dissolve, I was just reading an X-Men comic from 2013 which name dropped that site. I don't recognise the name of the guy who wrote the book but it struck me as hilariously optimistic, and also a little endearing, that he thought this was a natural reference to sneak into everyday conversation. Though

Isn't that what this write up is critiquing though, the idea that a grim backstory is inherently more interesting? Wally West didn't have a particularly dramatic backstory, and yet the Wally West comics were much better than the post resurrection Barry comics. Of course, classic Barry was white bread and it's

If you're watching Buffy on Netflix just do yourself a favour and stop. Was actually looking at it today and it's just terrible, not only is the aspect ratio cropped but the film grain has been artificially removed so everyone looks like a wax figure. AND they fucked up the colour grading so you can see when night

Spoilers: It wasn't.

And yet Witcher 3 managed to have a pretty satisfying ending. I think the secret is that you need to craft 3-5 playable epilogues that get chosen for you depending on your actions. It must be difficult to create 20 different versions of the same scene, so I think CD Projekt realised it makes more sense to split it up

Solas is the fucking worst. Not only is he evil but he's also a super creep. BDSM Iron Bull was the best Bioware romance of all time though.

The final battle at Skyhold was incredibly generic and it felt like none of my choices were making an impact. The writing of whoever the bad guy was was terrible and he had no interesting motivation. Everything was wrapped up much too neatly. IIRC there were even decisions you could make earlier in the game about

The ending to Inquisition was so terrible I honestly thought it was a parody and the real ending was still coming. Turns out it was, but as DLC. That was much more deserving of backlash than ME3 imo.

The interesting thing is that ME3 is structured so that it has endings for different plotlines spread throughout the game. From what I remember to endings to the Krogan Genophage and Quarian/Geth plots were really good, it's just the final Reaper war ending that's a let down.

For me, a more accurate take would have been how hypocritical it is for him to say "modern Hollywood sucks". Resuscitating the withered corpses of Alien and Blade Runner actually makes him one of the biggest culprits.

Well, it's used because when you say something is "racist" or "sexist" or whatever people who don't agree just shut off their brains because they feel vilified. But I guess saying problematic is going to get you ignored just as quick. You're right it's too vague though, people should really just come out and say what

Witcher is already one of the best adaptions ever made. It's doubly impressive because the story is a continuation rather than a retelling, and yet the tone is so spot on. There's easily enough material for it to be the next GoT, and IMO it could surpass that show if the writers are as smart as CD Projekt were.

Funny, when I watched Rogue One I can't say I noticed there being any "characters".
