I mean...it’s also both. It’s BOTH. Both of these factors, working together, are the only thing that can explain the ascension of DONALD FUCKING TRUMP to the nation’s highest office. He needed both of those to line up to win, and that’s exactly what happened (barf).

Oh, no, I think he is. I went to high school with one of these guys, and he appears on Fox and Friends (groan) quite a bit. He’s a complete asshole, and buys this shit hook, line and sinker.

That’s as good a suggestion that I’ve heard as any.

So what’s the solution? You can curse the existence of all of these white (male and female) Trump voters, but how will that help “us” win the next election? They DO exist, and they DO vote.

Yeah...but the DNC knew this. This isn’t a surprise. Moderates and independents do NOT LIKE the Clintons.

...

Oh, a ton of us will see the hypocricy. But the Trump folks won’t, of course. And there a lot of them.

THIS - being overly objective in the face of blatant racism. That’s not “being objective.” That’s being obtuse. Referring to a black woman as an “ape” is a VERY loaded term that is obviously racist.

Michelle Obama may be a classy woman without a hint of scandal, and married faithfully to a loving husband, but you know, BLACK! So that is all these “Christians” need to see. Becuase, you know who else was a white guy who hated minorities? JESUS! Obviously. It’s science.

I have been. It’s been straining many long term relationships, but I don’t give a shit. It’s too important. Literally the future of the Republic is at stake.

Damn....that is incredibly well-stated. I just hope that we didn’t learn the lesson too late, and that there will actually still BE a country in four years for the 2020 election.

I’m 40, and I don’t either :(

I admit that, as a white person who lives in the northeast, I always knew there were racists...but I didn’t really know the problem was this bad. I know, I know.

I did. My representative (Leonard Lance) is a Republican, but I’m hoping he listens to reason. Steve Bannon is a pig.

Obama still gives a shit about the country.

Chickens voting for Colonel Sanders, etc. etc. Mind-boggling.

Oh no, not at all. The media always deserves skepticism, especially when it comes to predicting ANYTHING (which, in fairness, everyone is generally pretty lousy at, because most data sets are usually shown, in hindsight, to be wanting somewhere).

Informed rants, are good. They are healthy. Discussion is good, and I enjoyed reading your comments. You bring up a lot of good points and by and large I agree with what you’re saying.

I think that HamNo has a point this time, though.

I know you responded to me instead of the original commenter, but my only point was that - cynically - these are lessons in terms of electoral strategy that the Democrats need to learn. You can build a coalition of tolerance and not treating other people like shit, while still courting the voters who voted for Trump.
