Glad she reacted with grace and humility about her ignorance, and is trying to do better. We all have our blind spots after all, but not everyone is open to self-examination and making a change. Great to see.

I know the Conan one and the Emily and Kumail one, and like both, so I’ll try Hills I’d Die On. Thanks!

The catalog gets a bit better (“Mother’s Milk” and “Blood Sugar Sex Magik”) but in any case, I think it was hard for them to pick another band.

It has to be one they both liked at one point (Auckerman seems to have a much deeper musical knowledge than Adam), that the listening audience knows, and that has a lot of

I found it disappointing, too. If it were half as many episodes but covering the same material it would’ve been so much better.

It sounds like a fun read. For what it’s worth the term self-care started in the medical and mental health field, as a recommendation for certain patients (those with PTSD, the elderly, those recovering from certain ailments) and for medical and mental health professionals as a way to avoid burn out.

That was really moving. Thanks for sharing!

I don’t think he’s that strategic about politics, but more he’s being strategic in promoting his new album, “God’s Country”, that’s about to drop.

Now playing

Here’s James Earl Jones reading the first part (also, there’s a move afoot to not only get statehood for Washington D.C., but then name it Douglass (so we don’t have two Washington’s but also because Douglass was amazing.)

“If the dude has legitimate beef with Whedon he should by all means sit down with a reporter and hash out all the juicy details,”

Or maybe get in touch with Whedon and talk it out? Why does it have to be public? I can see if he wanted to warn people of Whedon’s behavior, but if he’s waited this long, it doesn’t seem

If the Democrats win the election they are much more likely to regulate Facebook than the Republicans in some way. Warren has said she wants to break them up (Amazon and Google, too) and she will likely have much more influence with a Biden administration than she does now. Even a more moderate stance will likely mean

Thanks for sharing that piece from The Times. And thanks for the article, too.

This was useful! I haven’t been to the Grammar Girl site in a few years, so thanks for the reminder to use it when I have questions.

I really like the opening track. And LOVE “Summer Girl”. Everything in between is not my thing (“Now I’m in It” and “I’ve Been Down” being the other ones I’d put on a playlist.) Different tastes!

No. There is a long and painful history of racist minstrel shows and blackface in the United States, while there is not the same equivalent of white face. So they are not at all the same thing. The latter is not offensive and Chappele in whiteface was an example of a comedian who is part of a minority group punching

There was a short-lived TV show based onKitchen Confidential” (starring Bradley Cooper before he became a star). Maybe you can track that down? No idea if it’s accurate, but if Bourdain was involved, maybe it was?

Nah, it was a great show for the first five seasons or so.

I don’t think it was meant to be a satire of “ER” even if it may have come off that way to some. It was originally based on Bill Lawrences’ close friend’s experiences as a medical intern (his friend having the initials JD even.) They also used the classic book “House of God” as an inspiration.

9pm on Thursday nights in the USA. And what also helped it was that all the execs at NBC apparently loved the show.

I think the whole show got more cartoony as it went on (as most sitcoms do), Rebecca included. Sam got dumber too, when in early years, he would just seem like he wasn’t well read but still very intelligent.

NBC re-aired that amazing episode the week that Nicholas Colasanto died.
