@Ian Logsdon: You realize of course that arm is Linux turf... and that Android is in fact a variant of Linux. But, they do everything in their power to avoid making use of 10+ years of development that linux has behind it.

I don't like that tablets are being treated like phones. They should be treated more like PCs from the development aspect.

So has anyone yet joined the million mile high club?

There aren't any apts above the radegast. Maybe next door?

This site is turning into techcrunch...

HP investing in time machine research? Whatever for?

@alex-y: We can't see much of anything. Space is really big and our ability to monitor even small amounts of the area surrounding earth are severely lacking. We probably wouldn't see an asteroid coming towards us until it hit.

@geolemon: Well you could use a web service. There are several ethernet shields for arduino ( see adafruit industries ), however the xport and wiznet ethernet devices they use also have GPIO pins on them... and MIGHT be able to do what you want by themselves.

If you are in NYC, stop by NYC Resistor on a thursday night. We do open events where people can bring stuff in to work on their projects. And there are plenty of people of varying skill sets available to talk to and ask questions.

@alex-y: One mass extinction has occurred already. We narrowly missed full out nuclear war on at least 2 known occasions. In one case it came down to a soviet radar operator refusing to inform his commander because he was pretty sure his radar image was wrong ( turned out it was ).

Having worked for HP, I have to say I disagree entirely with this post.

@Luke Bennett: Oh god help us all. I suppose it's either Iran or North Korea then if I want to avoid google. I suppose I could overthrow North Korea with the backing of the Nissin Corp. Anyone know some imperialists that would like to hook me up with an unlimited supply of Cup Noodles?

Probably should have done a rehearsal AK-47 shooting spree.

@drstein: oh noes. are they in space yet? moon colony here I come.

Well I suppose there is always the language barrier to hide behind, Brazil here I come. Ate logo google.

When google goes evil, it is not going to be pretty.

@James Valentine: James, I disagree with your cost benefit analysis approach. As do a lot of folks in this comment thread as well as dr hawking. The easy answer is, the earth will die. As much as we are mortal, so is our sun and our planets. We are pretty certain this is the case.

@SynicVance2.0: My guess is that once a few countries control access to space that will create a severe imbalance in the global economy. That would result in a polarizing effect on smaller / belligerent countries losing access to the world market and falling into chaos.

The man lived the dream. There isn't a person alive today who wouldn't want to be able to tell off their boss and storm out onto a giant yellow slide.
