Oh, is *that* why the phone isn’t ringing?

I mean, I don’t wanna be negative right out the gate, but this is gonna be really bad. Did you see Chris Rocks latest? Marlon Wayans? Hell, it’s been more than a decade since Eddie’s made a good movie!

This is a goddamned good rant, sir. This is one of those rants you can tell the man started just wanting to make one quick point and ended up writing six paragraphs because HOLY SHIT Berhalter is a terrible coach.

Serie A is trash. This happens constantly and nothing gets done. The Keane incident is exhibit A that they give zero fucks about cleaning this mess up.

It’s really difficult to reconcile where we are as a society with these issues because it’s all brand new and we’re feeling it out as we go along. How much time is enough time? Or should there be no chance at redemption? Are there levels to the amount of time that’s appropriate for these men to be punished? Aziz

It’s always fun when white people inform me of how racial stereotypes, offensive tropes and conversations on how to be better are “tedious.” Please, white guy, tell me more! I’m super interested to know how there were no Indians IN THE ENTIRE WORLD in 1990, and how turning Indian culture into a joke that Americans

cooter” is woefully underutilized.

you would be correct.

the author must be new to sports reporting and the boring, media-handled, milquetoast answers every athlete gives to any question ever asked.

WELL?

Well...yeah. If she hadn’t have done it to Eye, Eye wouldn’t have given a second thought to doing it to her. It’s in the rules of the sport, whether we like it or not.

Chokes and joint locks. If you’re caught in an armbar that you’re not getting out of, you know it pretty quickly and will tap before it really starts to hurt. Unpleasant, sure, but not always painful. Chokes are uncomfortable, but they don’t hurt.

Some fighters in the UFC, which is considered the pinnacle of the sport, the major league, if you will, get paid as little as $4,000 to show and $4,000 to win. If they fight 4 times a year, which is a quite active schedule, that’s $32,000 per year. I understand that you’re not a fan of the game but please, there’s not

I don’t know, man, I think that’s a narrow view of fighting from someone who has competed in combat sports. I’ve trained and competed in BJJ for over a decade, and if you think that many BJJ players don’t want to hurt their opponent, you’re naive. Holds get held onto a little too long all the time. The express purpose

Which is a very short period of time in the evolution of sport and/or society.

Well, no, McCain wasn’t a boomer, because he was born a decade too early. “Boomer” is much more succinct than “greatest generation guy”.

I think we’ve all played/watched sports long enough to know that being hurt and being injured are two different things. If you get kicked in the liver, it hurts but you’re not injured - there’s no lasting damage. It’s a semantic difference, sure, but a little nuance goes a long way.

Today’s MMA is so far removed from the first few UFCs that it’s barely the same sport. Not that it would be any more palatable to you, but it really is tremendously different.

Do you have the same opinion of boxing?

My presumption would be because knockouts like these are relatively rare, especially compared to the constant, every day head trauma of football. Brain trauma awareness is a relatively new phenomenon, and any fighter will tell you that in the old days, it wasn’t the fights that fucked you up, it was the day in, day
