Yeah, poor Paterno—he’s the real victim here. That’s what this is all about.

You do realize that this was 40 years ago, right? The way our police and society at large treats victims of rape TODAY is shitty and unacceptable — especially when it comes at the hands of football players and coaches (see: Winston, Jameis), yet I wouldn’t doubt for a second that we have improved leaps and bounds in…
As horrible it is to pick on a kid who has been abused, can anyone actually believe that a moral upstanding coach would not talk to anyone about his subordinate abusing kids (which we know isn’t rare), and then pick the Athletic Director, and not the kids guardians or police?
It also probably makes “zero sense” to you that Paterno would knowingly employ a child molester for decades, yet he did.
this victim got one on one time with the rapist sandusky. why is it so hard to believe he was able to speak with paterno directly? plus, its a *uckin kid, you think a kid knows what the hell to do in a situation like this?
Raping kids makes zero sense.
Absolutely a kid would trust Paterno over their parents or cops. Paterno was viewed as almost god-like. Akin to a priest with as much as he was held as a moral figure. Of course, a child would equate that with the person they could trust the utmost. (Are you not from the area? I am, believe me on this. Actual churches…
I assume this was a Second Mile kid, which likely means this kid had no family support system. Also going to the police is not exactly a welcoming thought to a victim of abuse, he likely didn’t think anyone would believe him except for a head coach who already knew.
I was all set to be outraged but you’ve completely changed my mind with your brilliant and articulate dissection of the facts at hand and declaration they “don’t make sense” to you.
Society has changed a fuck ton in 40 years. That’s the answer. Same reason more and more people are coming forward recently in similar cases. The fear and stigma are gone and people are finally comfortable addressing it
Does it make MORE sense to lie about being sexually abused 40 years ago?
“makes zero sense.”
As far as we know, the 1976 victim was one of those compensated as a result of the settlements that started in 2012. Or, at least, Penn State is not denying that the 1976 victim is amongst those.
Will this finally stop people from asking for that fucking statue back?
I can’t wait to see the next round of mental gymnastics Joe Pa stans use to justify this shit. JOE PA WAS A SAINT
I feel like “Why would you do this?” “The internet” is a conversation I’m going to have with my own daughter over and over again in my lifetime. She’s six now, but...the internet.
Mom: (after extremely long pause) why would you do that?
