This. Very much this. If we’re organized and fortunate enough to win this November, we can’t do the usual “heal the divide/look forward not backward.” We’ll need some kind of commission to assess all the ways Republican Party has degraded our democracy and do what we must to correct them. And that includes prosecuting

Oh yeah, I’m sure. But that is a very good point. I guess it should read 23% of cops are proud to admit to having a favorable view of white supremacists to pollsters. Now that’s a terrifying thought.  They’re feeling like they don’t even have to be closeted neo-nazis anymore.

Unfortunately, that statistic is really old. Though I strongly suspect the number will still prove disturbingly high, the study that produced it used resources from the early 90s. I wouldn’t rely on that for any other kind of crime rates. We really need some new data on that topic.

Yeah, I have a hard time imagining asking a question that would give you that result without it being a push poll.

Speaking of New York politics, anybody know if it’s been resolved whether the late ballots mailed before/on election day will be counted?

My personal theory, as someone who holds a modified version of solipsism and has a neurodegenerative disorder, is that reality is going to get weirder and scarier as my brain continues to melt. Sorry, if true.

Yeah, the capitalists pulled a neat trick at the start of the Cold War, where they convinced a majority of Americans that an economic system was synonymous with the totalitarian political system of our chief rival. Even so, the effects of socialism were still very popular through the 70s. Then St. Reagan came along

Quite. Though I’d also add that our real competition fights with hacking, trade deals, research (especially AI research), and propaganda.

If they skipped the payroll tax bails outs and other shit for corporations and just have every american universal basic income for 3 months

I could not agree more with nearly everything you said. However, there’s reason to be a bit suspect of the team Biden will put together. They’ll be competent, one way or another, but Biden is also chummy with a lot of the corporate ghouls who have been looting this country since the late 70s. That’s not reason to stay

You’re entirely correct, but there are two things that make those very true statements suspect as a prophylactic against brute force election interference:

At to Trump’s motive, it’s almost certainly the former (though I’m sure the thought of beating up protesters also appeals to his Cro-Magnon instincts). Trump has exactly one genuine skill: blasting a message into the media. Negative press? Positive press? Doesn’t matter, he’ll get it out. Is it completely fabricated?

Apparently, they had the shirts custom made by a third party, which might explain why it seems a lot more flattering to the donkey than you might expect.

That’s a shame. I’d really like to see Labour regroup, but I guess Corbyn’s going to be a factor making that harder. Wish I couldn’t identify with a press that cares more about the travails of publicity hounds than informing the public. Maybe Corbyn will have a change of tone? ;)
