I don’t mind the exterior design, but that interior is odd. A claustrophobic front seat with that high center console, coupled with an instrument panel that’s set way too low. They’d have been better off just making everything on a HUD instead.

The big problem is cops illegally parking their personal vehicles, or filling up available precinct lots so that city vehicles end up illegally parked.
This seems like a good place to restate my belief that it should be illegal for radio stations to play the sound of a car horn. They do so fairly often it turns out, and almost every time, it causes me a moment of panic as I look around to see if I’m about to be hit.

The CRZ should have been called the ‘CRX’ and they should have offered two powertrain options... the ‘HF’ which would have been the hybrid it came with (but with better battery management so they wouldn’t die prematurely) and the SI that had some flavour of the K-series engine... which would mean at least 150hp with…
I have always argued that CR-Z’s were actually pretty great. The problem is that they serve kind of a niche role and US car buyers expect cars sold here to be jacks of all trades.
Kinda makes you appreciate the Human Brain a bit more:
As an avid bicyclist who commutes to NYC by train, I second all this. I also have to go to job sites frequently, and sadly it is almost always more convenient to use cars if you’re going anywhere outside the Manhattan core.
Fair point - I still wonder why a CEO wouldn’t check internally if there was existing company knowledge about the poor experience before setting out on his own. I appreciate the effort to see for himself either way.
Or… the research team has been doing their jobs just fine and reporting it to the right people, and those people have just been ignoring those findings and recommendations.
Funny that it would take the Uber CEO and a handful of other executives getting behind the wheel, and experiencing the technical difficulties and stresses drivers face first-hand (as well as the rudeness of Uber riders) to change things.
For some reason, despite New York City’s density, walkability and extensive public transportation system, people still choose to drive cars in the heart of the city. When you take all the traffic into consideration, getting around by car makes even less sense.
I still feel that GM, Ford and others were stupid getting rid of their small affordable cars. I rented a Chevy Spark on a trip and for being a 13k car it was totally FINE. Power windows, decent mobile phone enabled sound system, good fuel economy, decent power and acceleration, even dare I say- fun to drive?
Jalopnik’s slogan is,”If it drives, we’re tracking it. News, reviews and all the latest on planes, trains and automobiles.”
Yep. My hot take for the day: buyers who actually need a truck should be required to apply for a “work” designation for it. Otherwise, it’s classed as a “passenger truck” and regulated accordingly.
Just like they would have sold a shitload of VW sportwagons and All Tracks if they would have GTI’d or R’d them.
I would have considered buying a GTI version or a ‘true’ R version of the Arteon. It’s a handsome car, but good looks can only go so far.
I have a CX-5, and I don’t hate it. But, if there had been a comparably-priced wagon around I never would have given the CX-5 a second look.
Assuredly I will get hate for this, but the Golf R and GTI. The Golf is a great city car or commuter, but by the time you get anywhere far enough from commute traffic to actually use any of that power, why wouldn’t you just get a bigger, more practical car? I’ve owned both Golf and GTI and have driven an R recently (al…
Every time I sat in one at the auto show, it was immediately out the window for me due to the interior materials. Maybe it was because they pitched it as quasi-luxury? I currently drive a Camaro and it is not lux at all, but it doesn’t bother me. There is a disparity between what I am expecting and reality in the…
