You know, I went back and looked at this ‘cause it got another star the other day and popped up on my alerts. My comment was not helpful and it missed the point. I apologize.

My read (and I could be wrong) is not that they “don’t think it’s viable for their regular network,” but rather that they actually realize it’s SO viable that some people will shell out for a monthly subscription to their stupid platform just to access it. It’s a damn ransom.

I mean, yes. CBS is garbage when it comes to how they manage their IP. They’re one of the worst. But they’re also delusional. They have some decent content, but they’re nuts if they think it’s enough to justify a $6-10/month subscription fee.

Yup. When it comes out, it’ll be time to fire up the VPN and go exploring....

I’d forgotten about that! DYING

CBS All Access is never going to be competing with Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu. People don’t want to pay a monthly subscription fee for access to, basically, a single channel/network. People want to pay for a platform that negotiates rights with many different content creators and networks and brings it all

Unpopular Opinion: She has a ~great~ voice, but the everything else about this cover does nothing for me but make me want to listen to the original. :-/

We say the same about nuclear physicists. Well, I have one of those in the family, and he’s still a Trump supporter and climate change denier, so....

The Babadook reinforced my child-free resolve 10,000%. Christ.

Whhhhy is album not out till August when we obvs need this track now????

So good.

My husband and I mostly make up songs about cat butts....

Not even close to what I said, but thanks for playing!

FWIW, I’m a Jez reader, too, and I don’t deny that its community has some issues (especially around race), but I never saw anyone say anything like this.... (If there’s some down-thread rando(s) that did, that’s hardly an indictment of all of Jez.)

Totally get it. My husband and I are also in our 30s and live just outside DC. We both work full time in demanding jobs of types that just do not tend to ~exist~ outside a major (read: expensive!) city. We each have hour-long commutes (in opposite directions). I have student loans from multiple advanced degrees.

You are my hero.

This needs all the stars.

Fair point, but laptop? At least stream it to your TV?

I sometimes forget how spoiled we are in places like DC....

But yes, apersCapers makes a good point! Some of those films can be a pain to find in theaters in other places.

Seriously, though. I used to think ~$5-8 to rent a movie to stream at home on iTunes or Amazon or wherever was ridiculous. But with theater tickets being so expensive.... the streaming rental prices are actually not seeming too bad to us anymore. They cover the whole family, can be watched in PJs, can be paused,

I know the type, for sure. Thank you for at least trying!
