Totally agreed. RE4 presented a new path and basically paved the way for more action-oriented stuff in a similar vein like Gears. Rather than continue down its own path, Capcom just looked to the things that RE4 inspired and cannibalized them.
I love RE4, love RE5, and can enjoy my time with RE6 despite it being a clear mess but claiming it “would never have” happened if “Mikami would have stuck around” is complete denial.
