I definitely agree re: preferring complex characters. I think my main issue is the nurse’s death, while traumatic, still felt minimized in some way, especially when compared to other terrible things main characters (like Montrose) have committed. We know Tic did a bad thing, but do we really feel he did a bad thing

I guess I see Yahima’s death differently. She gets a name, and gets to tell her story; although she doesn’t have much screen time it’s still far more than the nurse. We even get teased with the idea that she may survive, which makes the shock of her death carry even more weight. I don’t see her as an “NPC”.

100% agree! But I’m speaking in terms of the narrative. I felt (and maybe it was just me) that the portrayal of Yahima’s murder sets Monstrose up to be a monster too far gone to be saved. For Tic, his murder of this nameless nurse is almost like a tragic thing that was done to him i.e. he was forced by circumstance

I want to pirate it on principle alone. Releasing the movie in the theaters is wildly irresponsible and is encouraging people to ignore there is a lethal pandemic going on.

I enjoyed the episode. But there were some underhanded narrative tricks used to place Tic’s murder of a random (and presumably innocent) Korean nurse into a different context than, say, Montrose’s murder of Yahima.

And Simu Liu (Jung) is going to explode when he’s headlining the Shang-Chi Marvel movie!!!

lol howdy neighbor

Agree with you on points 1& 3. Honestly, at this point I’m not sure if the residents of cities and other places where federal coronavirus aid was deliberately withheld should be paying any sort of federal taxes whatsoever.

“get off your grass” - sure

I was actually “corrected” by my manager a few months ago who insisted myriad as an adjective was incorrect and the only correct usage was “a myriad of”.

Important to note though - Shkreli did not go to jail for the price gouging, it was the securities fraud. I’m not defending the cretin but when Congress hauled his ass in to testify it was kind of laughable — “why is healthcare so expensive, someone should do something about this!!!”

UNLAWFUL DENTAL ACTS

That’s the one!

What’s most interesting to me is among the least stupid of them — the ones who recognize that “hey, some of the stuff he’s saying is... fucking dumb and/or dangerous” — their immediate response is not hmmm maybe Trump isn’t the best person to be making these decisions but is instead how can we cover this up somehow and

I believe what you’re describing is the phenomenon Steve Bannon was trying to architect: The Immovable Minority.

Possibly? I guess I just can’t fathom a universe where I leave my house to meet up with coworkers for a drink after work. But maybe that says more about my dissatisfaction with my job than it does about the future of casual drinking culture.

I’m surprised Chick-Fil-A can still get mentioned without the obligatory nod to their gross politics.

I have a foot in each world. I am incredibly fortunate to be a white collar worker who can comfortably and productively work-from-home in one of the few industries that has been unscathed — perhaps even benefited — from the virus and quarantine (tech).

There’s an excellent video (can’t find it) that argues for this exact same tact — labelling someone a racist is seen as so personally insulting and disparaging to their honor or whatever that the fight becomes about how someone is defined, who they are “in their heart”, etc, and also opens you to charges of falsely
