Well the installation hasn’t happened yet, so I can’t critique what the artist has actually done with the powerful symbols.

As a feminist, and artist- I look very critically at the use of the female body in artwork and the world. While his commentary on this piece sounds somewhat contrite, Spencer Tunick’s work is the opposite of exploitative, and typically not about gender. He doesn’t airbrush bodies, or sexualize them. All body types are…
My first thought is maybe they should all be holding speculums and ultrasound wands, but mirrors are actually an interesting choice because they reflect back at the watcher and make the onlooker a part of the piece.
Are you familiar with his previous work? Mass nude photos are his thing, and one of the interesting things about them is how it manages to be nudes without feeding into the male gaze stuff so common in the art world. I don’t think much of the statement here getting into the “mystic feminine” junk, but his work is…
except for the part where you play art critic, and try to tell everyone “fuck this guy in particular” for doing something hes been doing for many years, you are right on point.
While there’s no clear litmus test for what is or isn’t objectification, I wouldn’t say that’s what this is (at least, not necessarily). The artist’s intention is clearly that they be considered as whole people worthy of respect (subjects, not objects).
You’re making my point for me. Women’s bodies have been used over and over again throughout history. What exact is the amazing political statement in more naked women? Objectification like this is overused and passé.
Maybe. Tunick has been doing these photographs for over 20 years. He’s a fairly well known and respected fine artist. There is a huge difference between his work and pornography objectifying women. I think it’s an inherent problem with artistic symbolism you bring to light though. One person’s empowerment is another…
Oh cool, white dude asking 100 women to pose nude for difficult-to-decipher performance peice about “the sacred feminine” for a bunch of people who are already too dense to give a shit about women. Thank you, smart arty man, for figuring out how to communicate for us! We should’ve just been holding up mirrors and…
If he asked for 100 women and their cats he could have gotten them all from Jezebel.
Someone on Kinja wrote that Melania Trump always looks like she just realized she’s married to Donald. I giggle every time I see her.
Ordinances with spelling errors should just be automatically invalid...
Fuck yeah. I’ll grab my tools. Meet you at Target?
In theory, the more people in the bathroom at once, the less likely you are to be raped by someone. So by integrating both into one, you virtually double the chance of there being multiple people in the area at once.
“I don’t have nothing to hide.” means literally that you DO have something to hide. Let's just admit that she is what she is, an attractive women married to a grotesque man for the sole purpose of money.
I think they should just renovate, tear out the wall between the men’s and women’s rooms and turn it into “the bathroom.”
Which douchebag son? I count two douchebag sons.
It depends. If the pretty gold digger is having sex with them she’s great. If the pretty gold digger is not having sex with anyone she’s a frigid b-ch. If the pretty gold digger is having sex with someone else, she’s a wh-re.
Just the possibility that she could replace the current FLOTUS is so disheartening.
no idea what you’re talking about.
