Yes. All of the films mentioned were financed independently or by small production companies. A24 just bought their distro rights out of festivals (which is awesome and hopefully allows for higher recoup after the principal financiers are paid out, but still.) Especially with “The Florida Project”, Sean Baker has

That’s pretty much what I do for a living, so I will of course tell you that it’s fun and worth it to book a session with a good portrait photographer. I try not to ruthlessly alter people, but most are surprised when I tell them that EVERYONE gets altered in some way. Photographs take your features and scrunch them

It seems the advice here is “Be able to afford a Montessori school and a nanny.”

Oh man, I’ll bet. I’m not a handy type of guy and I just finished my first “new house” project - building a wood fence for the backyard. This is in no way a difficult project (in terms of required skill) and yet, after putting posts in, cementing them, and seeing that they were straight and sturdy, my ego was like

I’ve got a good work area and a jigsaw, so I’m thinking about making it myself. Going to look into a maker space now, though...

Is that a refurbished cabinet or did you build it yourself? If you did it yourself, it’s the perfect shape and I totally want to copy that.

Which is why I think it’s weird that I can’t find a cabinet WITHOUT the CRTV for less than three hundred. And yeah, I really haven’t seen any cabinets for sale with a working CRTV. I’d assume they sell mighty fast on their own, so it’s better to remove it and sell it separately. I also don’t want a CRTV for my build.

I don't know if it's my location (Chicago) or just that it's become a popular thing to do, but I can't find an old cabinet (even in terrible shape) for less than a few hundred. And that's completely gutted - no CRTV or buttons. Now I'm just looking to build one from scratch myself.

I’m a huge Ellison fan and have been reading nothing but his work since he passed, and I’d just like to tell you that you’re awesome for both writing this article and talking to the original designers. I couldn’t love this more.

Solely based on the trailer, I absolutely believe you.

I thought I had misread the headline as I said to myself “Surely I would know about a new ‘return to roots’ John Woo movie, right? And, as someone with two small kids, it’s not like my house has Netflix on 17 hours a day HOW HAVE I NOT HEARD OF THIS.”

How about this - just find an interesting or just neutral corner of the office and shoot there. Not only will you save a ton of time by not doing a key-pass in post, but you can color-time for skin tones and not make people look pale and lifeless.

You don’t like “Shame, Shame?”

For what it’s worth, and I am in no way defending the GOP stance here, I watched 13 Hours (it was on Amazon Prime and I was bored) and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it as a cool action movie, and how good Krasinksi was in it. I could absolutely see reading that script and just thinking about doing the action set

Ooof, that’s a low blow linking to that poor guys headshot collection. I do headshots, and it’s never ever the clients idea for those types of shoots. It is always their (mostly) inexperienced or crappy agent. The client is never happy about it. The photographer is never happy about it (which is why character shoots

Say that you want, but that Steam Controller has ruined all other controllers for me. I’m super pissed that the concept of the touch pads hasn’t caught on with any of the console manufacturers. It’s an amazing controller.

Was hoping someone would point out that Loyola began as a Jesuit Academy, and it not considered a traditional “Catholic” school. They also fund a pretty good Anthropology department that has been host to some pretty renowned experts on Paleoanthropology and human evolution. I always thought Loyola was pretty cool

Hold tight as long as you can. It’s so much worse than you are expecting.

Open secret, you’re correct. Chicago is that uncle everyone knows is racist but invites to Christmas anyway and never brings it up.

Hey, I live in the city and you can go fu......oh, racist? Yep. You are correct. We bought a house in the only neighborhood we could afford that is close to my wife’s school, and is also the whitest part of the city. I’m white, and even I feel like I don’t fit in. This city has seeeeecretss.......
