Hilarious. That's a loooooot of - *cough* - homages to Pris. Still, I'm not complaining. Ridley Scott would be livid though.

"The committee is old-fashioned. They need time to get used to the idea of a woman in this line of work."
Yeah, I think it's just been taken further from its root in the USA. If you follow through to the definition of "spastic" in the same dictionary, the first definition is split this way:
You're welcome. As you can tell, I had the most fun adding the boots.
*double post*
Firstly, we know what Americans mean when they say "retard". If we hear that insult in our heads, we can only imagine it in a North American accent because it is unique to those countries. We do find it distasteful, because we know what it means. Sorry if I confused things by not making that clear.
Good point, well made.
You can with Media Hint, for Firefox and Chrome. Simple little plug-in, works with most sites but not YouTube (use Proxmate for that).
I see you've got an alt link from another commenter, but you should also check out a browser extension called Media Hint.
That's not political correctness, that's avoidance. Political correctness is a negotiation towards culturally inclusive language.
It's a fair point. If we get right into it, it's not really any different to call someone "idiot" since that meant the same thing a couple of hundred years ago. However, nobody uses "idiot" as a medical description today, so that would be why calling someone "retarded" today in a barbed way carries the weight that it…
Yeah, I knew the Association was older, but he'd decided a national tournament was the deciding factor on rubber-stamping the name so I went by 1888 instead.
By the way, when did your first national league start? Our first fully national league competition was in 1888 (regional competitions only prior to that). The travel involved to have city teams from across the USA playing each other must have been a massive undertaking in those days.
I think you could cope with seeing a game referred to as "football" and then discovering that the topic is the English sport. We see articles all the time that say "football" and we quickly learn it's the NFL in discussion, without having to go into etymological gymnastics about how it should be OURS.
The kitten is dead, sadly. Here's link SannaKJ posted in the main comments - http://www.lifewithcats.tv/2013/07/04/2-k…
Yes, but "retard" is used differently in America than in the rest of world too.
Kirk, I know you're sensitive about these things, so please stop saying "spaz". I know it's not treated as seriously in the States and a lot of people think it's meaningless, but it's not: "spaz" = "spastic", a outdated and eventually derogatory term for people with cerebral palsy. It's particularly problematic when…
:) There's something I really like about how messed up it is. Pokémon Skyrim could have been impressive, but I prefer this sleazy knockoff.
