I’m struggling to get through We Have Always Lived in the Castle, but I’m propelled by the hunch that once I understand what the hell is going on, I’ll be able to reread it with more enjoyment.

Ha! I found you, Moriarty!!
I’m watching these comments for Moriarty. I know you’re here somewhere.
You brought up a point that I hadn’t realized was affecting me (positively, actually). I have no idea how others experienced the beginning of the Subtle Knife, but I remember feeling like it had adopted some tropes of YA Lit that I find a little...frustrating. Namely, the conveniently squeezed in, relevant, and…
Joelle,
Did someone already say this? The Mandalorian is going to begin exactly as Patton Oswalt’s character (Garth Blunden) described in the famous fililbuster episode! He climbs out of the Sarlacc! Garth was right! Garth was riiiiiiiiight!
On last week’s review I wrote way too much about how I think about Cersei. I’m not sympathetic to her exactly, but I kind of get the problem.
What are we arguing about? Can the Hound kill the Mountain while also getting killed himself by the Mountain? Well, yeah. Even if he’s injured. I mean, the Mountain killed the Viper while also getting killed himself. He’s just a zombie mountain, anyway. But really, I don’t disagree with you. Sandor is on a suicide…
I don’t think he’s trying to avoid getting killed.
Still healing? I have the sense of the chronology that he’s still in the process of healing. Also, I bet he could shake off the injuries to kill his brother and Cersei (indirectly). Maybe I’m just holding out hope.
Yeah, Jaime as some sort of great battle general is one of those realistic falsehoods that comes from his last name and the fact that more often than not, he’s on the side with a gigantic advantage. When he showed up to end the siege of Riverrun, it wasn’t his strategic prowess that ended things, it was what he’d…
There’s a super strong monk on the Quiet Isle temple carrying bodies around and such. I’m guessing that’s a fully healed Hound. Brienne notices him, and the guy on the Isle says that the Hound is dead but not that Sandor Clegane is dead.
Great point! Hadn’t thought of that!
Solid guessing. I’m thinking Bronn kills Brienne (who jumps in the way of the crossbow bolt) and Tyrion. Jaime kills Bronn and then is the Palanquin (or whatever) who kills Cersei. The Hound definitely fights the Mountain - it’s set up in the books for that to be Cersei’s trial by combat. The Hound will show up as the…
I’m a real softy. I’ve read all the books multiple times and seen every episode at least twice. I’m fully in the bag for this world and the stories therein. Just thought I’d share how a full on pollyana saw the episode.
I had this overwhelming fear that he’d start talking to Bran in the Monarch’s voice from The Venture Brothers.
I mean, neither of us should be taking time on this as we’re both probably rational, pleasant people. You are right. The typo was the missing word “of” before Galactus and then horrendous punctuation and syntax after that. Then leaving the comment hanging without clarification. Let me try again.
I think when I posted my comment, my wildest hope was a reply like yours. Thanks!
Hence me saying some “like” Ego or the Living Tribunal. Sheesh.
My tiny worry about The Eternals being on deck is that the solution to Endgame may be some entity at the level Galactus or Ego, the Living Tribunal, or Death stepping in and erasing what happened. That happens enough times in the comics to make me worried as it cheapens things...sort of. But I’m fully in the bag for…
