? Nearly 60% of Americans support abortion - but beyond that expanding voting rights does *a lot* and it’s about the only path we have to stopping things from getting a lot worse.

eh, context matters. Tressie McMillan Cottom is an extremely insightful sociologist and is not writing some sexist rant. She’s also talked about before how appearance should not be off the table for discussion as it effects how people are treated.

Being addicted to nicotine is not at all the same things as refusing a vaccine. Plenty of vaccinated people also do things like overeat foods that are bad for them, drink too much alcohol, or not wear sunscreen.

Your ability to be aware of your place in space is physiological. It can be affected by psychological things, like headaches can be for example, but it’s still physiological.

I mean, because that is how you would describe comments that were racist and sexist if you didn’t want to start a media firestorm. I wondered the same thing.

You said it was bad *but* also they had rich husbands or wanted rich husbands. So sure, if you’d like to explain why my reading of your comment was wrong and clear up why you think their marital status or hoped-for martial status is relevant to this topic please go ahead.

Oh I didn’t realize all the cheerleaders had or want rich husbands! Now that you’ve explained that I understand their exploration by a multi-billion dollar business should not be anyone’s concern.

Yes - from a political will angle I agree. I was not saying this is something possible tomorrow. But if we are reimagining a system, which is what many people are doing right now, then what I was saying does make sense. As a society we could certainly create a job where people are trained in social work and also how

It could be a matter of funding and will. If social workers got good salaries and benefits, mental health support for *themselves,* reasonable hours, and substantial breaks from the trauma filled aspects of the jobs there probably would be a lot of people to do it. People sign up to be police officers and go to war.

Could we stop this trend of pretending that women who’ve managed to meet society’s extremely high standards of appearance are still somehow not pretty enough? Leave that to trolls on the right.

Sure, but what I was getting at is that while the *consequences* of Trump’s actions were different, the substance of what *he* was doing was not different at all. And also that is was predictable that something unprecedented and harmful was going to result from Trump’s behavior. I think it’s a meaningful distinction.

I mean sure, January 6 is what lots of us said was eventually going to happen in some form or another. Other people just didn’t believe it. In terms of Trump’s conduct in and of itself, nothing was actually different on Jan 6 than any other day. It’s just his actions finally had consequences visible to almost

This concerns me a bit as the Democrats are getting more progressive, so an old-school GOP would probably pull centrist Dems. It’s not obvious this would benefit progressives.

We will still remember he existed. No one is going to forget Trump. I’m fine with removing things so that escapist entertainment can still be escapist, or so teenagers watching it don’t absorb offensive messages (in the case of removing non-Trump offensive content). With the multiple of ways to document these things,

I don’t really need my children to watch old unedited media and absorb the things we all had to unlearn. This things are all documented on youtube and other places and it’s easy to find it in times where you can put it in the proper context and discuss. This strikes me a bit like the statutes, removing them is not

No, the tone of the article did not imply that, the same way the articles that focus on teachers are not implying that, say, health care workers have it easy.

Are you under the impression that moms are not employed in the many occupations you just named?

Just FYI: being a SAHM is not necessarily easier than being a working mom. If you are a SAHM who cannot outsource any help and have 2+ kids it very well may be harder. It is, actually, a ton of exhausting work to take care of kids.

It’s earned mistrust. I am very much for people taking the vaccine. But the fact that people are skeptical is the fault of the racism pervasive in the medical community, and also the profit-chasing of pharmaceutical companies. I do feel that they were likely extra-careful on vaccine development because the whole world

This is a good point. “Defund the police” is a good slogan for the activists. The alarming nature of it was exactly was made the idea spread widely. Now a good chunk of liberals support the idea of decreasing police budgets.
