I feel really sad. But I think it’s because it’s cold and I’m sooo over it.
I’m on my way to DC to see Nederlands Dance Theater at the Kennedy Center, and to visit museums and such!
Not to invite everyone’s ire, but we managed to get out the day of the snow storm, and I’m in Turks and Caicos. Boyfriend is complaining that it’s not quite hot enough because it’s “only” 72. Okay, going kayaking now! (Totally understand if you want to hate on me, ha.)
I am actually watching video of the big New Years TV special from China at the moment, since my favorite pop star performed, so that was exciting.
I already had New Year’s dinner with my extended family on my Mom’s side. I got turnip cake, red envelopes and this sweet cake I don’t know how to translate (faht goh, which is a pun on prosperity or something) from my Grandma. It’s kind of sad that when I was a kid, CNY was a much bigger deal, and we’d do all the…
That’s so interesting that you think Adam Rippon is more artistic than Nathan Chen. I don’t follow figure skating anymore, but Chen comes from a ballet background (Ballet West school) and the dance magazines have featured him and characterized him as artistic, musical and with beautiful lines! Hopefully I’ll have…
I received a Staub Dutch oven as a gift! I want to make that no knead bread in it. Will it actually turn out?? I love to cook, but baking is soo not my thing.
As brighterside mentioned, straddles, pancakes and roll throughs are your friends. I like to use a stretch band for my straddle, and also doing straddles lying down with my legs on the wall so I can gently push with my hands. Frog stretches / one legged frogs are a good progression and can help with proper alignment.
Thank you love <3
All Balanchine- Apollo, mozartiana and cortège hongrois. I’m especially curious to see Mozartiana since I’ve only seen ABT dance it last spring season, and I think it will look very different at the “house of Balanchine”.
Thank you! It’s going great so far :)
Thank you!! <3
It’s my birthday! So I’ll be heading to the spa after ballet class for some sauna and massage time myself. And then dinner and NYCB. :)
I had too much brunch so I think I’m just going to roast some broccoli and bake a potato for dinner. I really need a nap.
I’ve been working privately with one of my Pilates teachers, and I think I’ve made a major breakthrough in the way I engage and access my core! It’s so amazing to get new body awareness.
For NYCB I’m seeing both all Balanchine programs (Mozartiana, Apollo, Cortege; Divermento, Four Temperments, Chaconne), a Here/Now program (mixed bill with a Justin Peck piece, a Ratmansky and some other things), the Classic NYCB program (Square Dance, Robbins’ Four Seasons), and the Balanchine x Stravinsky program…
I was doing okay, but then I spent $240 on ballet tickets. And that’s only for the winter season, haven’t even bought my spring/summer subscription yet and I have a few more things I want to see on top of that, yikes. I guess I should plan for this kind of expenditure since I always go and see shows, but how much I…
Well ballet class is a constant. As one of my teachers says, class is like church, you go no matter what! (Actually, I don’t go to church but I definitely go to class.). And because I’m dancing, I know I have to do all of the things that support that, including conditioning and flexibility. I tend to sign up for…
I have terribly tight traps as well, and the thing that helps me the most is rolling them with the lacrosse ball and doing lots of thoracic extension - bonus if I can do it on a tower or Cadillac with the roll down bar. Btw, I am still Pilates obsessed and it was thanks to one of your posts on GT two years ago! It’s…
