I liked Inherent Vice. It felt like both a spiritual sequel to Boogie Nights and a fun riff on The Big Lebowski’s stoner PI model.

The more I learn about this movie, the better it looks.
Agreed on Peter Jackson. Everything up through Return of the King was amazing (except The Frighteners, which was still okay), and everything since has been mediocre to outright bad. I’m still mad about how badly he butchered The Hobbit.
I kinda feel the opposite about Jay Z. I used to think he was overhyped, aside from the occasional bright spot, but 4:44 is amazing and The Carters’ new album is pretty good, too.
It’s just a silly metric used in nerdfights.
Those were movies about video games, but none of them was based on a video game. There have been a handful of decent movies about video games (The Wizard!), but until now not a single good movie based on a video game.
I mean, if you could cross a fish with a nun it might look a lot like these creatures, and the process might look a lot like The Shape of Water.
Ms. Marvel, obvi. Has to happen, Capt. Marvel setting that up for sure.
Presumably, the people who refuse to watch Get Out wouldn’t have voted for it even if they did, so their refusal to even look at it won’t materially affect its chances.
Honest question from a white person: does the intent matter? The “soft r” n-word seems to be thrown around by the type of clueless white people who think that it’s okay because they’re quoting a song or “have a lot of black friends”, while the “hard r” version seems to be used exclusively by overt, unapologetic…
What a shame to live in a world where someone feels obligated to apologize just because they accidentally traumatized a bunch of people.
It’s a shame that they’re pivoting to larger budget projects since some of their smaller offerings were so good, but if they do their Tolkien show well it’ll all be worthwhile.
Numenor.
This is it! We’re finally getting a long-format, high-production value adaptation of The Silmarillion, appendices, and unfinished tales! Pop the champagne, Tolkien nerds. Beren and Luthien. The Witch King of Angmar. The fall of Nemenor. It’s all happening!
I’m a little torn on Villaneuve - I appreciate his somber, adult, meditative take on genre work, but it can also be pretty tedious. Over all, I think his style is a little close to Sam Mendes: visually lush, contemplative, a bit of a downer. I hate to say it, because the Roger Moore years were the nadir of the…
Except the need for it, I suppose.
Everything about this makes me happy.
