I just posted something similar before seeing your post. Yes, it’s like the genuine thirst for knowledge is almost gone. It can be brought back - I honestly believe that.

I have a huge respect for librarians and a deep love of libraries. Hang on in there, one day we’ll be able to send the kids back to you instead of Google. I am still hoping both of our jobs (I teach) still have a future.... and I am not thinking of just a paycheck.

Ditto, fellow European not from one of those Western European lovely countries where teachers get paid a decent amount :). I get what you are saying.

That is probably part of the “we should hear both arguments” problem. Yes, we should, if they are equally researched and if they start from proven axioms/ facts. But if one is “the world is round” and the other “well, no God says it is flat,” then I guess not both sides deserve equal consideration.

And that is why all courses at colleges and universities should teach proper research skills (most do, but not all). Google is not always your friend, people! Libraries are. And serious databases. Maybe teaching research methods in high school might be a better idea. When we get them, most kids don’t know the

I am very split right now. I am currently in the US, but my husband is still in Canada. Which do I chose, which do I chose? How about cloning Trudeau?

I’m picturing the Nope octopus gif just about right now!

Well, to be fair, Cruz might have done that himself, so he kind of gets it?

And we all know that the cotton industry, in particular, will create so many..... hmmm, “jobs”? /s (just in case)

I find it chilling that he was not just simply laughed out of the race.

I’m with you on that. I have been concerned ever since he got the nomination, but lately, I’m getting real-life angst. I keep asking my American friends (yes, I’m here, but cannot vote because “alien,” legal but still): “Guys, he won’t win, right?” “American won’t vote for him, right? Right? RIGHT??????”

Yay, mine too. Two pairs of them. Fuck platforms (this coming from someone who wore only very high platforms all through her teens)! Give me ballet flats! All the ballet flats in the world.

Haha! I’m from a former communist country but too young to have lived through drills. I have to ask my mom, but wouldn’t it be hilarious if they had been told something similar as kids: “when the capitalists invade, they’re going to throw all the children into ovens.” Oh, the Cold War!

Well. if there one thing I don’t lack is imagination :). I’d suggest cavity search next, who knows?

Well, my lit prof told us (a class 99% full of girls) that we belong in the kitchen and not in a classroom (no, I was not born in the ‘60s, just in a different country). I am currently a lit prof in the US and way above the level he could ever think of reaching. Who belongs in the kitchen then?

You can say that again! I would not talk like that to my students in college. It just shows lack of respect. I mean, I get it, you like to swear and “be funny,” but why not do that with your family and friends? That have no choice but to put up with you. Your students? They have other options.

I think they’re fine if you’re below 5. Otherwise.... well, some jobs (like waitress-ing) might requite them, but people should be paid extra for that (sorry, people said that already).

Well, that is a new achievement. Most of us here lost one in the stranger’s bed :). Check the vacuum cleaner though, you might find it.

Thank you very much.

I wish that dude would have called me. Just for the earring, mind you :)
