So, you mean Fracking?

Except lithium batteries will not be the only battery in the future.

Cobalt is not a rare earth metal and it’s a by-product of Nickel mining, which has been an important resource for decades. Cobalt is also being phased out of battery production already.

Cobalt, Lanthanum and Neodymium come to mind

PHEVs are fantastic for a particular use case, but lots of people don’t fit in that use case. I spent $50 on gas in all of 2020 for my PHEV Pacifica.

Such as? Lithium isn't rare either, btw.

Reminds me how city dwellers at the turn of the 20th century felt gas-powered cars and trucks were a godsend at stopping pollution.

If the only issue was extracting lithium....what about others rare elements?

I will once again point out that a plug in hybrid gets 90% of driving accomplished on electric, while using 20% of the battery. Using current available tech it will go much farther environmentally than making 20 million electric only cars that have 400 miles of range. While, yes you are hailing around a motor and

better at when it comes to being green is a pretty huge stretch ^^
Yes, y’all allowed to put an electric motor in an old ice car, but you’re also allowed to roll coal, put giant V8 on rustpiles and drive them on roads, ...
Overall I’m pretty sure our “too much regulations” is better than your “do whatever y’all want”

It’s not specific to the unions.

It’s still a 230km/2h30 drive (by the autoroute having tolls) between the two factories so workers would have to move if they want to keep their job, which is obviously not ideal.

It is important to note that engine retrofitting ICE engines was never allowed in France (and in most of the world) like it’s possible with crates engines in the US, you would have to homologate every modified cars which would cost more than the price of the car in most cases ; only replacing an engine for another of

It’s a gay slang term, but its very much real

And then they’ll make an SUV called the eBussibak

Doesn’t the D in TDI mean Diesel? You mean gas turbo engines right?

They do act like their customers, sadly. They will get a wake up call when it is too late and the world is on fire.

Also diesel, still?

I’ve made many trips along I5 in the Central Valley, and I know what you mean.  Screw fuel economy - it’s a boring drive, and I just want to get it over with.

As someone that routinely goes 85 on the I-5 and I-10 when going between metropolitan areas in Prius, :P.
