It’s not a great sign when you can outsprint a car to 15 mph. I had an Opel Astra rental in Spain last year which hits 60 in just over 10 seconds and it felt incredibly slow. I can’t imagine it taking another 10 seconds to get up to highway speeds.

It blows my mind that a 0-60 time of 8.5 seconds is considered slow in this day and age. And I say that as someone who has never owned a car with a 0-60 time above 7.5 seconds, aside from the extra car my parents had for my brother and I when we were home from college (2nd-gen Altima with a 4-banger). It’s remarkable…
I also hate the “tacked-on” ipad look of the main infotainment screen and prefer a more organic integration of screens like in the BMW lineup and Audi’s newer cockpit in the Q8 E-Tron. The screen looks like a toy that should be removed when the car is not in use.
SUVs also seem to carry a premium over sedans which comes as no surprise, given the popularity of SUVs in today’s market. My friend is on the market for a midsize car or compact SUV and I was astonished that 6-year old CX-5s are going for nearly $20K. A 2022 Accord @ $22K seems like a much better deal unless you…
I’m with you on that one. All the manufacturers are way to hard-on for the “midnight” look where everything including “grilles” and trim are blacked out. It’s a hair better than going all-in on chrome bits but way overdone on most cars.
No and yes?
I am sure I am fairly out of touch with the cost of ordinary cars given that my car purchases over the past four years have been either luxury cars (both new and CPO) or collector cars, but it blows my mind that a 4-year old midsize crossover will cost around $30K. I guess it makes sense given that these cars are all…
I am glad to finally see a modern Ferrari design that actually looks good and is a tasteful retro design harking back to the Daytona of 50 years ago. I guess I am more partial to FM-engined Ferraris (I would love to have a 550M in my garage some day) but this one looks great and the NA V12 under the hood is icing on…
I’m not sure how modern Subarus are, but I put roughly 100K miles each on a 2005 Legacy GT and a 2008 Legacy Spec.B, including several track days per year, moderate track day mods, and spending most of their time driving in stop-and-go city traffic, and both cars were as reliable as could be. Even at 100K miles when…
Seriously, the way my former Legacy GT Spec.B gripped the track around turns was impressive and made me look way better than I actually was. It was even more remarkable on wet track days how my lightly modded, $30K, 4-cylinder Subie was able to run circles around Vettes, M3s, and pretty much everything except for Audi…
The Toyobaru twins can certainly be daily drivers - unless you have kids. My dad had a Supra in the early 80's but when I was born and after several months of wrestling a car seat to the rear bench, he finally gave up and traded it in for an Olds 88. The huge boot was an added bonus as was the front bench seat for…
I know DC real estate really well (I am an investor and asset manager) and this is spot on. If you want to live in a nice neighborhood that is centrally located and/or close to amenities (metro station, shopping, restaurants/bars), half a million or so will only buy you a small 1 or 2 BR condo. If you want to find…
Good luck finding that $300K house and even more, good luck finding that house within an hour or two commute of good-paying jobs.
I guess the idea of a Model 3 being a potential LeMons candidate is getting closer by the day.
And with such a terrible CEO and person at the helm. Sure, most car companies are run by money-hoarding executives and sometimes with questionable ethics but Elon certainly takes the cake on being both a terrible person and someone who does not know how to run a company.
Most of the DMC-12s I have seen are in great shape. I think it has to do with the use of curved surfaces on the DMC-12 versus the flat panels on a Cybertruck. From what I have read, it is also because the DMC uses thin 304 stainless on top of fiberglass body panels (for structural support) whereas the cybertruck uses…
Mechanical and reliability issues aside, now that I have seen a few of these around town they all look like beat up, old trucks. Every single one I have seen has had a dusty patina and what looks like dents imperfections in every body panel. Most of these trucks have been spotted in the city and in the burbs, so I…
I try to be cognizant of confirmation bias but unfortunately I have had lots of experiences with law enforcement and it has been 50/50 between the ones who are trying to help and keep people safe and the ones who abuse their power. I am not completely devoid of confirmation bias but I certainly try to give credit for…
They’re posting in their right-wing social media groups that they’ve been stripped of the ability to enforce laws (when in reality they’ve been called out for breaking laws).
As someone who commutes to NYC on a regular basis, I would like to see NYPD officers (and whatever they call those unarmed meter maid-like folks who are supposed to be directing traffic but just sit there instead) actually pay attention to traffic and active safety threats that occur on a regular (almost every traffic…
