Oh fuck I remember the door trim so well. I had a 300 for almost 3 years and just totally detested the interior. It was super spacious, but the last place I saw such cheap plastic was in a 2000 Impala, and that shit was pretty bad.

Every time I see a Magnum (it’s rare nowadays) I always sigh and think how awesome it would have been to still have it around. It had all the ingredients I personally love: A V8, gorgeous styling (in black, it almost looks like a hearse, and I dig it) RWD platform with available AWD (yes, you could get AWD with the…
Trust me, I’m still fighting myself to this day. I just wish I had the moolah and a place to work on it. Though I don’t want to see an Esprit in that condition, because it deserves better, I hope I come across a shell like that again... I still don’t have the moolah or the space, but fuck it.
Oh fuck YESSSSSSS. See, every time I get angry at all the fugly modern car design, I look at the Esprit and take a nice deep breath...
It honestly would’ve been the perfect project. If only I had the funds and a space where I could store it and work on it... maybe one day. Believe it or not, it wasn’t the first time I saw an Esprit in that condition. I saw one at a junkyard as just the shell (no wheels, nothing) ready for the crusher - and I thought,…
Funny you mention that! It’s because of Blade Runner that I love this car so much. It just looks so damn futuristic. Glad you caught that :)
This is all so painfully true. The chronology of this “we want EVs, but we don’t” charade GM has put on for the last 20 years is on point.
Yeah, I tried to find a photo of it but couldn’t find it, so I just picked a random pic off the internet. The one I saw had a (horribly-faded, I might add) dark navy blue paintjob on it.
Hot take: 10 years ago when I lived in Toronto, down the street from my place sat a decrepit 1985 Lotus Esprit S2; had no engine and the transmission was completely seized up. Guy wanted $2,500 for it. If I had the moneys, I would’ve totally bought and converted it to an EV. YES, YES I WOULD, FIGHT ME.
I’m afraid this is the case for the world we have today. Humanity continues to live arrogantly in the face of its own demise; and while there are many who are trying to make things better, it’s just not enough to turn things around (see climate change).
I earnestly respect your take on this, and I agree with why you wouldn’t support Chinese-built cars or car parts, however the reality is that every single car on the market today will have a component, whether it’s an electronic, trim, panel, or otherwise, that is made in China.
It’s beautiful because it’s simple, and I don’t mean simple in a derogatory way. There are no dumb vents and intakes, ludicrous spoilers and other stupid shit slapped onto it to make it seem trendy and cool.
No. Just make comfortable fucking seats to begin with and remove the reclining button altogether. Makes extra sense to do that in economy class, where everyone is already packed in like animals. I mean, it’s fucking economy. We all didn’t work hard enough (clearly) so we don’t get reclining buttons.
It really has gotten insane. The whole features thing really has. It has kicked up the prices of cars substantially, and the average driver doesn’t even need half that shit. Meanwhile, they remove standard features like CD players... I get it makes business sense and it’s old, but it’s just a shitty thing to do;…
It was built on the FWD Taurus platform, so it came with FWD as standard, but AWD is also an option.
Thank you. I couldn’t have put it better myself.
You think that’s bad? Some manufacturers nowadays charge $500 for a CD PLAYER... like, CDs!! A feature that any shitcan 10 years ago came with standard.
Every young person I know doesn’t even want a car. All their funds go towards a bicycle, bag of granola and a bag of weed.
This. They have no brand identity. All their stuff is boring crap with no essence or excitement. The Lancer was the only exciting thing in their lineup, and that thing is as old as the Pharaohs. Then they turned the Eclipse into that... thing.
I think when they went to a normal automatic transmission, things got better and the car became a lot more enjoyable.
