Your mileage on Ground Zeroes will entirely depend on how much you enjoy the sneaking/gunplay and how much you want to strive towards 100% completion (or at minimum, completion of all the Side and Extra Ops). The total game once through takes maybe 5-6 hours, but invites tons of replays due to the very open nature of

I'd say just go buy it then, but set your expectations low. You may be pleasantly surprised (yay), or just agree with the reviewers.

Have you played Dishonored yet? If not, spend your money of a $20-30 copy of the Game of the Year Edition of Dishonored, because it's a much better Thief game.

Ah yes, South Park comes out, makes a couple of anal probe jokes, we all laugh and are surprised Obsidian didn't completely botch the technical end of the game.

Banner Saga comes out, Candy Crush Saga makers decide to sue over trademarks. Octodad is a flimsy premise about an octopus acting like a man, mildly amusing game. Broken Age comes out…and it's exactly what Double Fine said it would be. Titanfall comes as a savior to the forlorn Xbox One, saves it by being a better

We've lost so many of the developers in that tier, I just don't think we'll ever see many so-called "budget titles" again. Outside of Starbreeze (Brothers: A Tale of Two Son, Chronicles of Riddick, etc) and a few others like Yager and Atlus (now owned by Sega, but still), there's been a lot of losses of those teams

Eh, this is why I hate the term AAA. The game is a big release for a large niche market, but the budget and time constraints aren't anything like what you see from the major publishers.

Your entire post overlooks the massive growth of indie games over the last five years, a movement that is arguably one of the creatively active times in video game history. With cheap and easy access to Unity (and soon Unreal 4 and Crytech), it's become easier than ever for a small group to realize a creative vision.

But how would describe "internet-y" more discreetly? I mean, is it non-sequitur, is it meme-worthy, is it viral, or what? That just seems like such a broad way to classify humor, especially for a game like Portal (and moreso Portal 2) that relied so much on sly characterization, crisp writing, and dark, sarcastic

I vote for candy dots, and the assortment of weird, somewhat off-putting old fashioned candy treats you can find at places like Cracker Barrel.

I really enjoyed the graphic "Battle of the Late Night Stars" that kept coming up.

It's really hard to say, not knowing your personal humor tastes. I'd say it's less wry wit and great writing, ala Portal, and more absurd non-sequitur and reference-gag humor. I enjoyed it, but I would be hard-pressed to recommend it if you aren't liking your initial impression.

Strawberry Cheesecake is pretty amazing, but it really depends on the brand. Some just taste way too sugary, and there's almost no hint of the rich, creamy flavor of cheesecake.

It's an Adultswim-published game, so that could be the reason.

Vanilla is the standard-bearer of ice cream flavors for a reason. It's not too sweet, has a smooth finish to every taste that leaves you wanting just a bit more, and it doesn't linger in your mouth the way that chocolate and other flavors do. It's largely my favorite as well, though I recently found a local shop

This weekend will be shared between Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. It's a weekend of heavy roman numeral action!

I can't take your position seriously either, since it's hard to get duped when everyone and their brother has heard about the "brief" length of this game over the last week.

Creating a whole sequence on Mother Base, from shock to escape, would have been awesome.

What demo can you point to? Even if you rush through just the main mission (ignoring all the depth of the game), it still takes at least an hour, and I can't remember a single demo I've played in the last five years that was that long or involved more than a single mechanism of a more complex game.

Yahtzee did a pretty solid comparison of the two games a few years back, which basically boils down to one being a very by-the-number open world game with no character, and the other having a story and protagonist with some teeth.
