You go right on believing that darlin'. Paying O'Melveny or Latham all the money in the world won't stop from you losing if you're trying to "interpret" a clearly stated sentence.

If you were even a moderately competent attorney you could draft a clause in a will that left no room for wiggling or interpretation. It's not terribly difficult, counsel.

Well, yes, hence why we both used the term "explicitly" instead of "ambiguously and vaguely give your husband that authority."

What's to stop you from amending you living will to explicitly give your husband the authority to make this decision in this particular circumstance?

Well, the woman herself has the option of creating a legal directive not to keep her alive to allow the fetus to grow, so why depend on the family? Who's rights are at stake in this decision? The woman's? Certainly, but her's are protected by being able to affirmatively make the decision in advance. The child's?

Yes, involving another, separate, non-brain dead life to this picture complicates things. I'm guessing that's why this law only comes into effect when the fetus is over 20 weeks, which is about the point of viability.

I mean, maybe in homicide... but most police depts specifically avoid pairing female beat cops together so they don't get their asses beat down.

So I guess neither of you actually read the article, huh?

why does the family have a say? I get the bodily autonomy argument for legal abortions, but here it is not the woman's autonomy (she maintains that by being able to opt out of this law), but whether the family wants to kill a gestating fetus on the verge of viability? Why?

Your avatar is a cat and your gif a man pretending to be a woman. How appropriate.

I'm German and Irish and tan a deep chestnut in the summer, and I look great in cornrows. Did you have a point?

This shit is what happens when women don't have children. It's just the heightened form of Cat Ladyism.

It's cheaper to just keep the patents, and take out new ones, but not to use them offensively.

I'll be in my bunk.

Yeah, but that's just because you're ignorant as shit about medieval hygiene.

You realize 5'3" and 166lbs is fat as fuck right? And that it is only "average" because of flesh dirigibles rolling around on Rascal (tm) scooters in Mississippi and the like?

You realize middle easterners are considered white and that that was the dominant genetic influence on Egypt (mostly Assyria) prior to the Macedonian period, right?

You surely do get worked up on the internets.
