Just imagine if the genders were reversed here and how it would look if people were this skeptical of a woman complaining about being assaulted physically and verbally.
Oh she NASTY.
a gender binary that doesn’t really fit with today’s world, where most understand gender expression as existing on a spectrum rather than fixed binaries
Charlize had been successful in her career for a much longer time than Anya is now.
Anya Taylor-Joy is a talented actor but also very off-putting and almost inhuman. Charlize Theron is much more inherently likeable and I wonder how a Furiosa movie starring her (and maybe a sequel instead of prequel) would have done.
This isn’t directed at you specifically, but it’s weird that so many people complain about trailers giving away too much these days, and then a trailer like this comes out and some folks are like “Sure, but what’s the movie about?”
It’s always funny when a person who’s only been alive for the last couple of decades can’t conceive of the idea that there were huge, globally-famous celebrity musicians with fanatical followings before Taylor Swift. Look up Michael Jackson.
Taylor Swift is an industry like Apple and the world needs a new iPhone like it needs a new Taylor Swift album. You could say they both fill a need because people pay but there’s also an element of exploitation that they’ve gotten down to a science.
Again I listened to this overhyped phenomenon trying to get what everyone else goes gaga over, and again I don’t get it. It must be me. I hear a whiny, morose, sing-songy, mediocre singer (although she is FAR better at singing than she was a decade ago), with self-obsessed, kind of mean lyrics, plodding slick…
It’s not porno, it’s an Art Film.
I agree, and I so wish that in the middle of the movie they had switched actors playing Darren, with no explanation. Now that would have been meta.
Again, I’m not disputing that there was anime in America prior to the three I mentioned, but my point is that a lot of the kids watching DBZ and Sailor Moon DIDN’T have parents watching Astro Boy or Speed Racer or Kimba the White Lion or whatever. And Transformers is one where its anime-ness can be debated, unlike,…
Make no mistake - Dragon Ball Z was THE flashpoint for anime going mainstream in the U.S. When Cartoon Network started airing it on Toonami, it was an immediate sensation. Anime dubs and manga translations began pouring into America. That led to the rise of Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh and other titles, and anime really never…
A few years ago it was revealed that, after years of people blasting Justin for not doing more to defend Janet Jackson, that Janet had told him to stay silent, Sam Barsanti was all “he didn’t have to stay silent just because that’s what she wanted.”
The evidence that Timberlake is a jerk has always seemed pretty thin. It seems to have a lot less to do with Timberlake’s actual behavior, and more to do with the fact that we need more villains for our fantasy story about living saint Britney Spears.
I'm still not sure why we're supposed to hate Justin Timberlake.
“Her truth” is also a particularly obnoxious phrase. Either Spears’ statements about Timberlake are the truth, or they’re not. She does bot have a truth that belongs just to her. And whenever authors use phrases like “her truth,” they seem to be deliberately trying to brush past the possibility that something someone…
True, but this reads like an effort to fend off litigation by Timberlake. I suspect that Timberlake has threatened her with a defamation suit now that he’s suffering identifiable career harm as a result of Spears’ accusations.
Why would Mr. T talk about it? Was she a fool that he pitied?
