Huh. When I was a kid, based on questions I received from Americans (Do I live in an igloo? Why is my English so good if French is my first language?) I wondered if there were bookstores in the U.S.A.

I disagree with your inferences, your interpretation, and your effort to take a tangential and throwaway comment and make it into a “not all white people” thing. Have a nice evening, I’m disengaging.

Yes, and more than 80 million Nigerians live in extreme poverty. How many people in France have to live off $1,90 a day and how does this affect their abiity to buy literature?

Significantly less than 50% of the US population currently gets their period. Yet, lots of stores sell tampons.

That’s not an unreasonable question, given the fact that the literacy rate in Nigeria is barely 60% and only 50% of Nigerian women can read and write. So yeah, the bookstore business in that country is not exactly thriving I guess.

Also, can we please remember for a quick second that people have a right to their opinions? I know it’s not in fashion as of late, but disagreeing with someone does not (necessarily) make it good news they died.

My Mother is all of these things and I still love her. Even in these Trumpian times, people are allowed to have personal views that you profoundly disagree with and can somehow still be decent human beings. Or are you perfect?

You called her a garbage person and said everyone hated her in Ireland, all I’ve seen as reported horrible behavior is she had an air rage incident attributed to a bipolar disorder. Not really seeing why a person with a mental illness who just passed deserves the contempt in this thread but to each their own.

What? I’ve never heard that she was any of that. She was Catholic, yes. Googling now, I find one extremely dubious site attributing an anti-abortion quote to her. That’s all I can find. Do you have sources for these claims?

Is speaking ill of the dead a hobby of yours? Jesus, she just died. I hope no one goes to your funeral and says, “Hey, knock the grieving off. I have a power point presentation on why Stromboli123 is an asshole.” Christ, she was a simple singer. She wasn’t Stalin.

Why are you posting this on an obituary article? Yikes dude.

Because she had a mental illness, you ignorant ass.

I have several Irish friends, close to her age, and every single one is gutted by this, and they are folks who look sideeye at Bone.

I think it would be odd if her political views were well known, but a cursory google search didn’t bring up much (other than the Catholicism). If she was pro-life, she didn’t seem to have been particularly strident about it. I don’t see anything about her views on immigration online. So I will continue to fawn,

Why exactly do we need to not forget that? She was neither a politician nor an activist who is leaving behind a legacy of harming many others through her backwards views. Do you go to funerals and walk around reminding people of the deceased’s faults?A woman whose music obviously touched the lives of millions of

Gonna complain about the power outlets when you get there, too? This is fact of international travel that shouldn’t surprise anyone.

Tom this is not Delta’s fault. It is plastered all over all of their international flight information. Every single travel page includes warnings about this type of thing. There are very good reasons for the expiration date and having to be home before it expires dealing with international travel laws, visas, visa

Glad this had a happy ending and that you had a good trip. Suggestion- maybe include in your post that one can renew a passport nine months before it expires, and even earlier if needed (e.g., if you now look very different from your photo for some reason).

I don’t think Beauty and the Beast is remotely Stockholm Syndrome. She volunteered to be there in lieu of her dad’s prison sentence. (Is life in prison a harsh sentence for breaking and entering and stealing a rose from a French noble? Perhaps but a revolution is coming to France don’t you worry.)  They bond over
