I toyed around with making a Plex server for years, but it’s become a priority now.

I don’t think it’s that people are surprised by their pay when they get hired.  It’s more that they can’t live with constant inflation without their pay increasing.

You’re right as long as you’re careful in who you hire, which should be obvious but isn’t always. Lots of industry vets who were good at one job and terrible at another (see former scandals at HP, Yahoo, etc.).
