“What a fascinating yet horrifying time to be alive” - that’s due to Trump, right? Not a movie. Reality. Although “fascinating” really doesn’t apply.

He’s not a Republican. Republicans seized on some quote he said 10 years ago about prison making him more conservative (and even then he never used the R-word...). So he’s listed on all kinds of conservative and GOP sites as one of theirs. In reality he’s been a major contributor to Obama and both Clintons, and took…
Oh, believe me, many of us would take RDJ over Cumbie.
Cumberbitching — ANND I think you hit the nail on the head there. Just sayin’.
The second RDJ Sherlock film was terrific.
How do you know she’s killed off? I don’t think that was very definitive - a good writer could bring her back. I could write that in an hour. And the plot of “Game of Shadows” was far from incoherent - structurally it was as close to a perfect action plot as you can get. Better constructed than the first one,…
Thank you! My pleasure - I will ALWAYS defend the RDJ Holmes movies. They’re terrific.
But the Sherlock Holmes stories as written were NOT “mysteries.” Conan Doyle never even titled them “mysteries” - that’s a whole separate genre. It’s very telling that he titled them “adventures” - and that’s exactly what they are, and exactly the spirit that the RDJ Holmes films capture so perfectly.
Right?? Seriously.
What was wrong with the second one?? It was better than the first!
THANK YOU - omg I so agree. The Downey movies are not only far closer to the books, but they also open up the books in a way the BBC series (which has become pretty much a self-serving, navel-gazing piece of fanservice) hasn’t done in forever.
I know, right? Whenever I hear someone say they thought the second RDJ Holmes film was “bad,” I say “what the heck were you watching??” The second film was better than the first in so many ways - and I loved the first one, so that’s saying a lot. “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” is an almost-perfect action movie…
Now THAT is for sure. Alas, the BBC Sherlocks have gone downhill precipitously.
The second film was actually even better than the first one. I wasn’t too fond of the faux-occult villains in the first one (seemed a bit too Da Vinci Code-esque), but then you get a great Moriarty in the second one, and the heroes’ dauntless dash across Europe to the endgame in Reichenbach, and...goodness, what is…
Agreed. That’s the opposite of a problem.
WHAT is this?? I love the Downey movies!! And I’ve been a Holmes fan for more than 30 years, I’m in three BSI groups, write about the canon, dissect the canon endlessly — and you know what? RDJ is pretty much my favorite Holmes.
