Honestly, that is exactly what I thought when I saw the clip before he even said the joke. That's just logic, not sexism.

It's definitely closer to speculative history than most fantasy, but a huge plot point that they don't really focus on in the previews is the threat of the mysterious supernatural "white walkers" north of the Wall. There also used to be dragons but they’ve died out.

Yes, this may be the best sci-fi/fantasy I've read as far as well-developed, interesting female characters go. I realized today that my two favorite characters are female and, I'm ashamed to admit, that NEVER happens. Writers just usually don't seem as interested in them.

I'm halfway through the first book and the often excessive sexual scenes are the closest thing I would say it has to a "downside." Even if you're going purely by stereotypes, though, this seems like something you would include for adolescent males.
