I agree that “restoration” isn’t the correct word, it’s more of a Resto-mod. Using period-correct and/or iconic modifications.
They’re not, nor are they designed to.
We found Amazon’s diapers and wipes to not be anywhere near the cheapest option. Most of the generic brands in the local stores are cheaper (I’m certain not always true in all markets, but don’t fall for the assumption that they are cheaper). We did use the Amazon wipes for quite some time, as they came with a nice…
Meh, I’m attracted to most listings described here. I’ve bought several cars/parts that people were too lazy/ignorant to list correctly. I’m willing to send a text for a few more pictures, or go see for myself.
9 is too many?
That was my first thought when I started reading this.....
Craigslist, mostly, but also junkyards (you might have a you-pull-it one near you, otherwise even some more traditional yards will sometimes do a deal to sell a complete set), Facebook marketplace/groups, Ebay is good for completing a set. Not really any reason to go new. I just bought a set of 4th gen V8 4Runner 17s…
I would take that challenge, and I’d put money against it. Similar vehicles, one with your Pirelli’s and one with the cheapest designated winter-only tire (it helps that most of the really scary cheap tire brands only make jack-of-all-trades options), on snow and/or ice. I’d bet money that the snows will out accelerate…
$1000?! What do you drive? No set of snow tires (alone, since you listed rims and labor separately) in a remotely mainstream size are a grand. You can probably get brand-new wheels, tires, TPMS sensors, assembled and shipped to your door for not much more than that.
Obviously I would recommend (and currently use) better than the cheapest.
Cannot be stressed enough.
Let me remind you of an article you wrote about Tanner Foust’s Passat ;-)
I’m using documented tests, and 100s of hours of Ice racing seat time to know that I have more grip with the cheapest snow tires than you do with the best all-seasons.
Year-round rubber does not perform as well as a winter tire on cold, dry pavement, either.
Yes, a hockey rink is a worst case scenario example.
My thought, too. I didn’t realize these still had differentials (and open ones, at that). The whole advantage of having an electric, AWD performance car is torque vectoring.
Awesome! I’m shocked that they’ve been using the same chassis’ for that long. I can certainly see a few years, but they take some abuse (my own daily driver’s were used as recce cars on a few Rally America events when I was active on a crew. There’s a picture of my Celica stuck in a creek at 100AW about 6 years ago).
When I was in High School (2003ish) I was pretty active with the MNSubaru club. There was a huge local car presence Friday and Saturday nights along University Avenue in St Paul between the State Capitol and the U of M. Some of the founding members of the club got permission from the owner of a Firestone Tire Dealer…
