I’m not opposed to having a period where oppressed groups only write their own stories and I’ll tell you why: more often than not the white male dominated hegemony at best gets it wrong and at worst pushes stereotypes to keep its own power. Storytelling is a powerful tool for humans to communicate many ideas about

This argument fails when a large portion of people in the comic book industry is white. Its already a homogeneous of white people thats the point. I’m not saying that all books should be like what you are describing, I’m saying that this one book was the perfect opportunity to have a black woman tell her own story

Okay now I love the name HA

I probably should have said paternalistic white problematic ally to describe Bendis better, but ultimately he tends to give off the vibe that only he can understand minority groups, that he a white guy is so woke he can speak for people of color versus boosting their own voices. And he seems to have especially dug his

I never once said he is wrong in creating this character or that he should never write her period. He already written for her in the current comic. I’m saying that given that RiRi is poised to become one of Marvel’s current flagship characters and a huge player in the comics I wish a black woman was writing her. And I

I like your interpretation of the name, it still feels off to me but hey whatever.

There is actually something to research there that in comics, especially Marvel’s X-men, we see the plight of oppressed people with powers like aforementioned mutants and we can accept those stories and really connect with them but yet it doesn’t translate to actually empathizing with actual oppressed minority groups

Especially in an industry that is already very hard for women and especially women of color to be in and even break into.

This would also be a great way to actually diversify the industry.

This argument is moot when the dude has like 4-5 books a year in Marvels publishing.

See Fiege did what Bendis should have done, he hired two black people to write the screenplay and then hired one of them to direct it. And my logic isn’t saying white people can’t be involved in telling minority stories more that it’s time people of those communities be given the opportunity to write those stories too

If you don’t think black comic creators arent passionate about writing black character stories in comics then I don’t know what world you live in.

Its what hes written for these minority characters that im responding to but thanks for condensing my comment to just being stupid instead of trying to respond with some evidence for why I’m wrong. Heres a thread with another commenter where we discuss this about bendis.

Not really if he had collaborated with a black women comic book writer to co create this character and then let her write RiRi he would be golden.

Any of the ones who are trying to break into comics or who are currently writing comics.

That’s a terrible name. I’m still super ambivalent because Bendis and his white Savior complex is writing this. Why couldn’t Marvel hire a black woman to write this again?

This has been my main problem with this event. Some of the side stories are cool and interesting and Tony is getting some good moment but it’s all at the expense of Carol’s character. I can’t wait to see what She hulk does.

Wow this actually looks pretty good! I still can’t get over a complete 180 on Batman’s established personality from BvS. And Ezra Miller exceeded my expectations even if his suit is ridiculous.

The action bits look amazing. Iffy on the other parts but this looks so much better than anything in current DCU.

Fuck yea and its my favorite Rider too! I am so ridiculously excited for this.
