I’ve never particularly liked Lawrence’s performance as Mystique, but I do wonder if she’d have been better playing Mystique as the mysterious, slightly sadistic mutant activist of the first film rather than ... whatever Mystique has been in the more recent ones.

Not to mention that they made the whole thing about Logan’s #ManPain, when the WHOLE DAMN POINT of the story is that Jean killed herself rather than take the risk of reverting.

Why is the header image a screengrab from an episode of Star Trek: Voyager?

Saoirse was on the list?

They won't, since Marvel gonna have the franchise again. There wouldn't be any trace of Singer X-Men again afterwards. Everything is clean slate.

Yes and don't introduce five new X-Men every movie with no time to develop them. If they're going to do that they should just do a premium cable series.

In First Class, all the women and people of color either end up dead or joining the bad guys.

I remember when they announced the finalists for the role...and we almost got Saoirse Ronan. Who would’ve been stellar in the role.

Am I supposed to care about Jean Grey? I don’t mean canon Jean Grey. I know why it was impactful in the comics to have the Dark Phoenix thing happen, but, like, we’ve spent all of 10 minutes with this Jean in Apocalypse. We barely know her, Scott, Storm, pretty much anyone that wasn’t in First Class. Why should I care

First Class isn’t great, but the “Magneto: Nazi Hunter” stuff is gold. Wish they’d gone ahead with that as the full film.

I’ve liked Jennifer Lawrence in a lot of things, but she never worked as Mystique for me. And — it’s probably that I may have only seen Rebecca Romijn in one part, but she made a great Mystique. She had that air of mischief combined with, you know, murder.  Might not be Lawrence’s fault since her X movies don’t seem

Hot Take! Rebecca Romijn’s version of the character is definitive. She’s mean and sexy and dangerous and, you know, mysterious.

I respect the fact she can admit that. She seems pretty reasonably grounded.

Kind of sad when the Deadpool movie ends up being a better X-Men movie.

I remember being disappointed Mystique was even on the roster of the FIRST X-Men. She’s such a hacky plot device. I’m shocked she lasted almost 20 years in these damn movies.

What the crap is going on with Jennifer Lawrence’s face in that video? Did they forget how they’ve been doing the Mystique makeup for the last 20 years? Did they lure her back by promising she wouldn’t need to do the makeup and all that’s just craptastic digital makeup?

They could have killed everyone off the face of the earth and have the last shot be Sophie sitting there, feet up on a pile of cadavers, smiling, cut to black. IT’S THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL over there at Fox.

The difference is that they didn’t WANT to replace her, they wanted to put her face everywhere as soon as she became too famous to ordinarily do a movie with them.

I would have no problem with this. It reeks of Bryan Singer’s touch, and I want to see his influence purged away.  Start fresh, and get away from all this damned world saving business and back to the heart of what makes the story resonant, as an allegory for outsiders and those who don’t fit into normal society.

If there’s one “ cinematic universe” in desperate need of a reboot, it would be the X-Men franchise.
