The D’Onofrio method
The D’Onofrio method
There are certainly similarities, but the Catholic Church lets their followers leave.

I sat through War Of The Worlds and all I could think was “It’s the asshole from the Scientology who jumped on Oprah’s couch like an asshole. I wish the alien death ray would disintegrate him.” And he was supposed to be the hero of the movie.
The Pope isn't helping Colbert along in his career and providing vacations homes.
I think it’s only polarizing in so much as you either think scientology is 100% batshit crazy cult bullshit...or you’re a scientologist lol.
That bullshit made up by a below average science fiction writer and active pedophile counts as even a pseudo-religion is so, so sad.
He said run, so for once it’s not Madison Cawthorne (yes, I know, Brazil. I don’t pass up chances to make fun of Madison Cawthorne for anything).
It’s neither lazy nor dumb. If you think so, pick a celebrity and try handing them a piece of paper—say, a birthday card. But you have to hand it to them, personally. You can’t give it to a secretary, or a bodyguard, or the concierge at their hotel, if you can find it (celebrities often check in under false names).…
Really? Because when you say things like this:
The process server is literally just the messenger. To the extent that they’re involved in “ruining someone’s lives”, they’re just the person responsible for handing someone some paper on behalf of a lawyer who in turn is acting on behalf of someone else. Saying the process server is “participating in the process of…
I check back every now and then but this place is pop culture Deadspin at this point.
do you seriously not understand how process serving works?
How about don’t fucking cheat on your spouse in the first place? TF kind of take is this anyway.
I serve a lot of paperwork. The vast, vast majority of it can be pre-arranged. Most of the time, people know this stuff is coming. The rest of it can be nailed and mailed. We only start tracking people down at their homes or jobs or wherever else when they’ve made it completely impossible to serve them elsewhere.…
If you’re evading service and have a publicized event that’s open to the public, you absolutely are likely to get served with process there.
Yes, from the process server’s perspective, this makes a lot of sense. Put yourself in her shoes, and imagine having to serve a document on Wilde. You don’t generally know what her schedule will be, and even if you find a moment when she’s in public, she likely has some kind of security (which makes sense from…
As I said in another reply, I’m a Judicial Officer (at State level). In Brazil and other countries of the “Civil Law” system it’s people like me who serve papers (among other things). The main difference is that while process servers are private professionals, Judicial Officers are governamental employees, which gives…
Exactly! One good reason to make service of process easier is because, if you don’t, the process server has to basically stalk you to deliver the documents. The server didn’t pick this moment because it would embarrass Wilde -- she picked it because finding her at a prescheduled event open to the public is easier…
this is a fine example of a gender biased bad take (that would be a bad take regardless of the gender of the recipient of the service, but is in this case _clearly_ all about gender as the author makes clear in the text. the same author would be cheering if it was Ms. Wilde having Mr. Sudeikis)
The reason all this hurts so bad, is because many of us have been reading the AV Club since the 90s.
