Sturridge is a really sad case. His per minute scoring rate was up with the best in the world, but injuries have basically decimated his career.

Ironic that the home grown rule was meant to ensure that English players still had a place to grow/ develop and play. All it has done is preserved a token English position on the roster and pushed clubs to bring in foreign talent at a much younger age so that they can become home grown players.

It probably doesn’t help that the EPL pays so damn well that being a bench player in England is a better deal that heading to Germany or Spain to try your luck. There are almost no English footballers in other leagues.
